Unhappy EPS get's their chopper

uh ooooh.
Just watchin' the 6 o'clock news and the EPS has their chopper in service. Beware speeders and those of u who race often (bad bad). The chopper is still missing it's spotlight, but like that is going to hinder them much.

If you you have followed the evolution about why the EPS got the chopper you would have known:

Early reports was to help it curb the drug trade in Edmonton which is actually quite bad b/c the EPS in ineffective & overly bureaucratic. They later recinded that reason to say that it was to catch speeders. They do not have the numbers to back up that claim. They do have the numbers to support that they can more easily follow suspect drunk drivers. There are way too many of those in Alberta, period!

BTW, why would they need a spotlight, the damn helicopter is equipped with a night vision camera. But of course they don't tell the public that. I went to the public viewing (I love helicopters) & saw it clearly marked on the camera control panel. That helicopter is the best money can buy right now for Police work. Explain to me how the EPS has the richest coffers of ALL police services in Canada. Funny how they have the most photo-radar & red-light cameras too. Although I support the use of such equipment/methods.

I have several friends in the EPS, but that still doesn't help me.

Peace all.

It will not last!!!!!!!
We had it in T oronto and the Peel region, but it wasn't cost affective and we have a higher population and crime rate.
It is also annoying to hear the thing flying around especially at night. Fells like your stuck in a Cop show!! Bad boyz Badboyz..............

Although it did catch a Honda type R at 227km/hr..

The EPS need not worry about it being cost effective. They make more money than all the provinces Ontario west combined.

In Alberta, the local HIRED police service gets 100% of revenue (fines) they generate thru law enforcement. Edmonton & Calgary police servives can make as much as they want just by enforcing the letter of the law MORE. The same does not apply for regions that use the RCMP for thier law enforcement. To my knowledge ALberta is the only province/territory with such a system.

In all other provinces/territories, the gov't takes thier share for administration costs. Not so in Alberta. Kinda leads to the question/reputedness about why the EPS is one of the most beaurcratic & corrupt services in the country.

As for the crime rate. Chew on this. Edmonton has the most amount of murders PER CAPITA than any other major city in Canada & the US except for Atlanta. Somehow this happens despite also having the most amount of enlisted officers in the service per capita.

I have significant invested interest in this matter, both for personal reasons and legal.

...and this...where the HELL are you getting your freaking information?? The EPS is way short on members, the can't even keep up the hiring rate for the attrition rate.

However if your info is good tell me where you got it and i will check it out.

I've been at this for over 8 years. My sources are good. Try the ALberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association, The Insurance Bureau of Canada, CBC, CTV, the RCMP, the B.C. Court of appeal, the Sask Court of Appeal, the Manitoba Court of Appeal & th Supreme Court of Canada. Almost all the information is available to the public. Most of the out of Alberta appeals courts are where you'll find ppl have to go when they cannot get justice within Alberta because of the bias & conflict of interest (the EPS working for the Crown).Hey You asked for it, now look it up.

The term, "corrupt" is the same term an RCMP investigation used when assessing the Hell's Angel problem that has become more active in ALberta. The term "bureaucratic" was used by a city alderman that couldn't get anywhere when seeking answers from the last chief of police.

The new chief has been very forthcoming w/ me personally so I have no problem w/ him. Nor the service for that matter. It IS a thankless job. However there are problems, and they seem to arise from no one at city hall questions the EPS's "business" practices. They ar a hired service afterall. This also stems from the public's growing perception that the police have been abusing thier power/influence to achieve thier agendas.

If you disagree then, that's your right. I don't need you to check anything out. There is an organization that actually does this, not to mention thousands of law students the will do it for nothing but fun. If you are scared of them then read your public docs & learn some truth.
They are a good service tha has been around long enough to effect change, which is NOT thier job. That is the job for alderman that represent the ppl. The EPS is a service and should only be enforcing, not making, the law.

"The EPS is way short on members, the can't even keep up the hiring rate for the attrition rate."
Read the large print: PER CAPITA, despite the rates. The ratio is often printed in the Journal when a writer reports about the EPS's spending & fundraising.

This is not the place for this discussion. If you want to argue my facts then PM me. I will most definitely find independent studies tha can refute or support most major claims of the EPS.

Let's get one thing straight. I don't hate the Police. In fact I support thier role very much. What gets me miffed is when they use thier position to manipulate the public. It's not like we don't have enough politicians already. There should be someone keeping them in check. Which is why there are civil advocacy groups. It's too bad those voices cannot be heard over the EPS's PR megaphone.

Of course, Damian wouldn't know all this if he didn't have to fight so many damned speeding tickets.

What can I say. When you're right... you're right.

But that is not the only reason. A good one but not the main one.
