Default BD Lowering

Hello all! I am a bit curious about lowering my '98 Legacy LS. And yes, I have searched already. The real problem is, I don't know crap about cars, at all! Don't really know what a strut or spring is, or what "offset" is, and all that good stuff. Just want to lessen the wheel gap and make it look clean. And no, I am not some ricer (or at least I don't think I am). I joined these boards in hopes of learning a thing or two. Just bought this car within the last month. Anyways, I really do appreciate all the help. Thanks!

Eibach makes a kit and H&R makes a kit. The bad thing about lowering BDs, especially if you have aftermarket wheels is you have to get the fenders rolled out to make room for the wheels. All that is is taking the inner lip of your fender and cutting it off to give you like 3/4 inch of extra space for wheels. If you are planning on getting rims dont get any bigger that 17x7.5 or else you're going to be rubbing the wheels constantly, I'd go 17x7, thats what I'm running now and I dont have too much problems with rubbing but I'm not lowerd and I dont have a back seat so if you go lower you're gonna have to get the fenders rolled.

I'm lowered on H&R Springs and KYB GR2 Struts and have no rubbing problems with 17x7 MB Motorsports Weapons (offset of 48mm) and 205-45 ES100s. As long as you keep with a wheel offset of 46-53mm on a 7" wide wheel, you should be alright.

Alright, I did put some aftermarket wheels on this bad boy. They are 17x7 and on 205/40R17 (not even sure what those numbers mean). What is the next step?

Perdue, that is what my BD looks like (well, stock of course). I am quite irritated with the black bars (what are these called?) on the sides. Did you get your front bumper holes (from the plate) filled and painted?

You can take those door bumpers off (the black bars) but when you do its going to be all discolored and have holes but you can bondo it and then paint it. Or you can always just paint over them to match the color of your car. I took mine off but my mom has a silver 99GT and hers are painted and it looks good too. I like mine better but I'm bias

Is it possible to rob these off a GT and attach them to the non-GT cars?

You want to take the door bumpers off of a GT and put them on your car? I have a 95 Legacy L Sedan and mine came with the door bumpers so I suppose you can take them off of a GT and put them on your car. If you do that you're gonna want to paint them because the black fades in the sun then its just ugly. If you want to keep them black you can paint them black.

LegacySTI, do you have a pic of your car without the door bumpers?

Anyways, if I did want to take my black ones off and paint them, how would I go about removing and painting them? I think they are a little sun bleached (or it's wax residue). Anyways, I would of course want it too look the best it can, and value quality over price. Don't want to start spray painting my car What is my best option?

And, any suggestions on a lowering kit to drop my car about 1-1.5"? Thanks!

No, sorry, I dont have any pics of my car, I'm still in the film age with cameras, I haven't advanced to digital yet. I wouldn't take them off to paint them. If you're going to paint them black then tape around them so you dont have to worry about getting paint on your car. They're held on by a bunch of little clips and or like 3M adhesive. Mine were clips on one side and 3M on the other. When I took mine off I broke a bunch of the clips so it would have been impossible to put them back on unless I molded them back on but that would look wierd. I would take it to a shop to have it done. it was like 250$ for them to bondo and paint my sides. I took the bumpers off and sanded it myself. If you just want to get them painted its probably around 150$. Go H&R for the lowering kit, I've heard bad things about eibach.
