Question I need help...again

Ok. This car is starting to test my patience. First the leak...fixed it. Then the coolant teperature sensor...fixed it. Now the car is rev searching when I start it. It will start, hit 1000 rpm then drop to almost nothing then bounce until it is happy at around 700. Any ideas. It's not serious, just annoying and worrysome.

P.S. '93 legacy wagon 2.2 NA with K&N drop in. (4 years old)

What part is 4 years old? The K&N filter? If so, when was the last time you cleaned and re-oiled it? If never, do it now. If recently, I'm guessing perhaps you over-oiled and the MAF sensor is oily. But an idle hunt could be a number of things... you'll have to tell us what normal tune-up steps you've taken already.

P.S. Fill in your location and car info.

Try resetting the ECU.

Well, the filter is 4 years old. I cleaned and re-oiled it about three weeks ago. I did just reset the ecu when I replaced the coolant temperature sensor. I change the oil every 4500 miles and clean the filter twice a year. I am really anal about maintence. The MAF makes sense, I just didn't want to limit the thread to only that possibility.

Hmmm. You have symptoms that have cropped up a number of times for other people. Do a search for IACV or IAC or IAC solenoid

It'll show a bunch of threads about the "Idle air control valve" or IAC solenoid...

(Use the "advanced seach" not the "search this forum")

Most of the time if you spray GM Top Engine Cleaner (The Aeresol Kind) down into the IAC hose (The 1" dia 12" or so long hose that connects to your Intake Setup) it will smooth out. Just make sure you put the hose back on before you start the car, otherwise the car won't idle!

My engine acted like that when I spewed my head gasket.
