Default Clearing Headlights with 3M

I had Stongard installed on the entire front of my car. Now I want to clear the headlights. I've read in a previous thread that you can use a hair dryer instead of an oven. Anyone actually try this? If so, will I have to buy some kind of sealant to close them back together since I'm not using an oven?

Hair drier I'm not sure of... the oven method is completely safe for the headlights. I'd recommend buying a silicon sealant just as a preventative measure because leaks = teh suck. Be the first to try the hair drier method, it may work better? I did the oven method and am 100% satisfied.

Do you have some kind of 3M guard on your headlights (Stongard/Rockblocker? I don't want that to come off.

No I don't but with the temperatures of the lights at night, being somewhat high, putting that in the oven shouldn't hurt it or make it come off. That stuff is made to withstand heat, and it's only 400° its not like fire or anything.

whos cooking them at 400? you only really need 250. much more and you will have a disaster (read "new headlight")

If the light lenses/protector really got hotter than 212F in use, raindrops would be boiling where they hit. I wouldn't necessarily expect any clear shield material to survive baking in an oven.

i cooked them at 200 for 15 min each (aprox) an it worked great, throw them back in for the same to reseal, before u screw everything back together. a hair dryer my not heat things up evenly. a good tool is a heated knife to cut the stringy warm sealer cuts down on the potential mess

buy silicone in a tube and make sure every single place that seals up is covered in a thin layer of silicone.

I had the Rockblocker stuff on there....don't worry, you'll be fine. Just stick it in the oven....assassin makes a good point that it may not heat evenly with a hair dryer.
