not to answer for gruppe-s but i think it is all speculative. no one really knows because no one really knows what the "reinforcements" were. Until someone pulls one apart and measures gear width and such you wont know for sure.

however i havent heard of people having problems with the XT's so far, but remember that with the 4.44 final a lot more of the stress goes to the differentials instead of the tranny.

PHATsuby - Hi, actually we've had these transmissions for over 3 weeks. Just haven't had the time to pop them open and take a look, as no one could decode the 2006 part numbers

b4437 - As PHATsuby says, it's pretty subjective regarding the actual strength of the transmission as there hasn't been that much history on these transmissions. I would venture to say that because the shorter gearing the transmissions would be slightly stronger than the USDM WRX transmissions (due to teeth size). The JDM WRX transmissions have a lower failure rate, but I'm not sure if that's because of driving style (as most automakers would suggest) or that the JDM WRX transmissions are stronger.

Cheers,

Gary

You mentioned that the new 06 tranny is stronger than the 02/03 tranny, I wasn't aware the 04/05 was any stronger than the 02/03's... anyway, do you think it is nearly as strong as an RA gearset, if so I would definately be interested.

The 06 tranny is not as strong as the RA gears since they are not cryo treated or thicker than the RA gears.

DJ_ej20 - About $275 to ship.

HonduHunter - $250 shipping for the rebuilt tranny with RA gears. Sorry, the 6 spd tranny has been sold.

Thanks,
Preston

Hi,

Although Subaru does make small revisions every year, the 06 transmission would be similar in strength to the 04-05 WRX 5-speeds, as the 04-05's feature the newer revisions compared to the 02-03's (I had an 04 myself until I switched to RA gears).

Cheers,

Gary
