Default USDM turbos?

what pre-02 USDM models were turboed? the other day I saw a car that was badged as a Legacy Turbo, and today I saw a GL-4 turbo.

Juneau doesn't exactly have a big tuner community (mention JDM and people get that glazed over look) so I doubt these are anything special.

Please increase my knowledge of vintage subaru lore.

Legacys came in turbo from 1991-1994, they were powered by a 2.2L turbo engine and either 4eat or 5mt transmission. They were available in wagon form but only with the 4eat. They were non-intercooled turbos, they came with a different interior, wheels, front bumper and had a hoodscoop for letting cool air in. There is quite a community for them at the Legacy Central BBS.

I'm not well versed on the older (than the Leg Turbo) Subarus so I'll let someone else chime in there but I think the EA82 (?) came in turbo form on a few Subarus.

This thread jus made me realize that this forum is about due for a sticky and a FAQ. We may be a bunch of fringe lunatics, but more come into the fold everyday. I may need to converse with a moderator on this and help put something together. This forum deserves to be more than the b@st@rd child of NASIOC...

What did the intake manifolds used to look like? Were subarus not always boxers?

The only subarus that weren't boxers were the 3 cylinder justy.

The intake manifold on the EA81 and most of the EA82 turbos were MPFI and had the throttlebody sticking straight up. in 1987, subaru introduced what we call the spider intake, which is the precursor to the modern EJ intake, equal length runners and the throttlle body sticking out the back, pointing toward the firewall.
