Default how do I pull ECU codes from '97 JDM ecu??

What is the procedure to pull codes out of '97 JDM ecu? I have a friend with a '95 Impreza L wagon who installed a '97 Sti front clip and it's throwing a code. I need to know what code it's got.

Thanks,
Jose

It should be OBD-I. Good luck pulling codes. I haven't a clue, plus the codes with I aren't very informative. My friend has a v3 engine and it's a total crap shoot trying to figure out what is wrong sometimes.

I thought you just turned the ignition key to the ON position without starting the car and you then observed how the CEL flashes. The number of consecutive long flashes indicates the 10s digit of the trouble code and the number of short flashes indicates the units digit. Tell us whether this works.

^^ That is sort of the way my Civic is. I did have to put a jumper into a plug for the CEL to flash though. It was in my Haynes manual, but I have no clue for a v3 STi (assuming the proper harness is there).
