Question Question regarding front license plate holes

Does Subaru (or perhaps an after market company) make some sort of dummy cover/plug for the front bumper (where the license plate attaches)? There are two rounded rectangular areas that I'm wondering if they make some type of cover for. I'd like to cover-up the holes that are there from a previous owner that was forced to use front plates.

Thanks guys.

You can buy a trim plate like I plan to do...makes the car look REAL clean.

^^ HAH! i'm supposed to have a front plate too, oh well.

i'm putting that trim plate in. and if i get ticketed for it (ooooh, $10 fix-it ticket) i'll just slap on a license plate, get it checked out at the station, and then put the trim plate back on as soon as i get home.

well i think the trim plate fills up those holes pretty good, plus it gives it that lil extra bling.

your best bet is to put in rubber plugs...cuz them up so that they'll fit perfectly, and paint over them.

See if it was a 10 dollar fix it ticket for me then i would be fine with it. But i am afraid that if i take mine off and get pulled over for it then there is more of a chance that the cop might find something else like say i was also going 3 mph over the speed limit or somethign dumb like that. ( I dont have any drugs, alcohol or illegal mods, but there is always a chance a cop can find something else wrong) Maybe I am just paraniod though.

well where i live, most of the cops are cool guys, most of them let you off with a warning if it's a minor offense. in certain other cities they'll anal enough to slap you with any ticket they want if they THINK you've done something illegal to the car.

i remember one story on nasioc where on guy in a WRX had a BOV, and the cop ticketed him for using 'NOS' on the freeway.

back to the topic at hand...

1) buy the front trime plate, looks sweet.

2) fill in the holes with rubber, cut them so that they won't protrue too far out, and paint them to match the bumper.

3) get a license plate.

there, problemo is el solved.

Does anyone know the site that has these, except you can get one that has a SWRT logo on front. It is not etched, looks more like a sticker that was put on top of the trim plate. I used to have the link, but lost it a while ago when my computer crashed.

Autospeed front trim plate in anodized black looks great and is low-profile, too.

You could always get a piece of plexiglas, cut it to shape with a dremel, and paint it with PaintScratch.com paint to match the rest of your car. I was thinking of this, but the Autospeed trim plate is just too easy, affordable, and attractive to warrant the effort involved in any other route.

***, 10 dollars? The fine here in CT is like $70 something. I took my front plate off anyway
Threw it in the trunk, and if I get stopped for it, just going to say some punks stole one of my screws and I haven't gotten another one yet.

I just called Eric at Bumperplugs.com...

I found out about his product when I had a '00 Carrera 4. He makes really nice plugs painted to match the car to cover those "ugly" holes.

He said he's done a couple of Subies...yet wasn't sure the model. Thus he asked that I measure the openings on the bumper. He's looking for 1/2 inch or smaller. If so he has an Aspen White (actually it's Grand Prix white, but it's a perfect match for Aspen white) plug ready to go...He has all colors available.

The trim piece folks are using isn't really my cup of tea...The plugs are very stealthy and work nice.

I just need to walk out and measure the openings...then call him. From there I'll post back if he has the right stuff for the STi's. If one of you already know the opening size, let me know and I'll call him right now..

Phattey..

Good deal, Phattey.. I'm not into the fancy trim piece either. So put me down for getting a set (even if I have to paint the suckers myself).

I just measured and the opening is 1/2". I've left Eric an email letting him know.

I'll let you know where this goes. I will tell you that he charges about 24 bux for those plugs. Might seem expensive and I suppose it is, but when I had them on my Pcar, they were great. Thick paint with a flex additive to prolong the quality.

Of course a person can go to a hardware store and do basically the same thing. Buy plugs that fit, sand them, prime them, paint them, install...

But I like his work...

will these plugs work for an '03 WRX Wagon? I was considering the trim plate, but I heard that some people still needed to drill the holes in order to install them...frankly I don't want to bother. Plus I would rather pay $24 to fill them up rather than $40 for the plate.

$40.00?!!!! WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!! Screw that, I am going to Home Depot to get something to plug my holes with, and paint it with my touch up paint. At the end, it will look better and draw less attention than a $40.00 5oz piece of aluminum. I thouhgt the 2002-2003 STi headlights were offensively overpriced, but this $40 piece of scrap metal takes the cake.

Yeah well, some people are lazy, and have some money to spend.

There was a DIY writeup on scoobymods about filling in that hole, it's nothing extravagant, basically plugging it up with rubber and painting them to match.

In the end, I chose to ignore it, imho not really worth my time and money to fill up two small and tiny 5mm holes.
