Default Impreza Theft Rate Data

Last Friday the DOT published its latest list of vehicle theft rates, covering all 1999 makes/models (click here to read it, but the server is sometimes very slow). Subarus, as usual, are way down on the list, which is in order from worst (Acura Integra) to best (Rolls Royce Silver Spur Park Ward - neither of those two lovely and rare cars was stolen ).

Of the 20,208 model year 1999 Imprezas sold in the US, only 17 were reported stolen in 1999.

On a related note, the Automobile Insurers Bureau of Massachusetts publishes a list of cars labelled "HIGH THEFT VEHICLE LIST" (click here to read it) and there's a bunch of Subaru models on it (but luckily, no Imprezas). What's the deal with that list? It lists about every Porsche 911 made since 97 and I know that Porsches 911s are rarely stolen. And Subarus, too, have a relatively low theft rate. I just don't get it.

Hey enjoy it and rest easy, at least I know one of my cars is safe from theft, my Integra Type R on the other hand is probably one of the worst cars for theft rate in the history of the world :-(

i can kinda see why the Prowlers have a zero theft rate....they stand out too much and also the parts market for a Prowler must be too limited to make it worth stealing.

but all three Subaru models in lowest theft bracket

That's one of the reasons I decided to buy the RS. I knew it stood out too much for people to even think about stealing it.

Although we are always in danger of joyriders, we don't have much to fear from pros, as they steal cars to sell the parts, which means common models, such as Accords and Camrys. I might be more worried if I drove an Outback though.

LOL
Ok check this out.
I own two cars.
My Impreza RS and my Chevy Metro 1998.
Of the 1999's the Metro was 51 most stolen car with 95 out of 25,749.
51st vs 170th
I'm taking the alarm off my Impreza and putting it on the Metro!

Default I am happy :)

Well, knowing that my RS has fewer chance in auto theft is always a great news

I used to drive an old 90 Chevy Cavalier, and know what? That car was attempted broken in 3 times in a year, with 2 times within the same month. Damaged? Well door lock was out, trunk lock was intact but damaged; but my top-of-the-line Pioneer was there, since I got an alarm; they still tried even when I have the alarm there. First time the stupid factory cassette player was stolen, but the bad news was center console all broken, and those bastard even punctured my tire on the SIDE! (If they asked me, I would've just opened the door for them)

That's why I love my RS It ain't bullet-proof in theft, but at least the chance is minimal plus hey! It just looks so sweeeeeeet

you don't have to worry the pros stealing parts, but joy riders trying to steal your wrx for joy rides. But some people don't like to steal high profile cars, but they stand out too much.
