Outta curosity....why is it that a rare handful of RS owners dont get the dreded CEL when they slap on their borla headers without wrapping them?

Because...I dont think anyone really knows why, all a matter of how the ECU is tuned, or how accurate the sensor is. One or both of those vary car to car and the values its looking for are still present with the headers.

All I have on my car is CAI, Borla catback and header and I get the P0420 code. Chances are youll get it. Its always a good idea to reset the ECU when doing a mod to it, just unhook your battery, leave it off for a little while and press the brake pedal a couple times. That wont really affect your chance of getting a CEL, but it will help the ECU learn the new performance of the engine. But you will have to clear the code and have it stay off for a few weeks prior to inspection. Either by swaping to stock or trying one of the fixes, a search will learn you of that. And to catch your other thread all in one post, I personally think its worth it. I coated mine, where the ceramic becomes part of the header so it protects it as well as the heat benefits.

Wink reprogrammed ecu yet

Out of curiosity how many of you have had the recall done for your impreza that came out in 2002. its called a (wwf89 reprogram ecm) basically the factory has a different maping that makes your impreza more accepting to air temps and changes its air fuel mixture use. I did it 2 weeks ago (its free warrenty work)and havent had my cell go off since. I have allways had cels on and off since the installation of my tanabe super riceing medallion exaust its always p420. If I drove at 90 or above for an extended period, time for another CELabration. I was getting myself psyched and ready for the new cylender misfire code when I got my 12 pound flywheel. but as luck would have it they reprogrammed my ecm and that little amber anoyance has been gone from my daily commute ever since. The recall is for only certain model years so its only gonna help a few. I bought my car used so I never got a recall notice in the mail the dealers where nice enough to run my vin and seen Id not received it(or got tired of the cel themselves during test runs post installation)and did the reprogram for it.

I do believe I have had that reflash, Ill have to look sometime. But I still have the CEL. How many miles have you driven since the work? It could take up to 300 miles for the diagnostic to be run to trigger the code. And this absence of the light is just cause they reset the ECU, much like you can do by unhookin the battery.
