Default wheel size and wheel bearings

I have my heart set on a set of 18x8.5 wheels. Mainly due to the fact that they are not available in 18x8. The offset is 42 which should work. The question is, what is the effect, if any, of that offset and size on an 03's axles and wheel bearings? I mean besides the fact that you don't like 18's.

They should work. However, they won't work for quite as long as wheels with a proper offset. Offsets under 48 will usually wear out the wheel bearings at an accelerated rate. 48 is considered the safe limit.

Dosen't it depend on wheel size? I mean 48 offset at 8" is not the same as 48 offset at 7". The leverage exerted is related to wheel width as well, no? I calculate 37 as being close enough to be correct. I think at least.

6.5" /2 = 3.25 + 55mm = 5.4" back spacing
8.5" /2 = 4.25 + 37mm = 5.6" back spacing

.5mm is ok. No?

Oh, well i'm not sure about that. I just remember important numbers.

Bump for help from others who know more than me.

[actually, you may get more help in the wheel/tire forum]
