Unhappy Clutch shudder...

I think my Baja is having clutch shudder. I know my 02 wrx had it but I donít remember it being this bad. The whole car like shakes when I shift into 2nd and 3rd sometimes 4th...2nd is the worse. I even have had other people drive it too to make sure it wasnít me.. I didnít think it was cuz I know how to drive teehee Has anyone else had this happen? Or know of it happening with the Baja. I am going to call my dealer tomorrow so I will keep you all posted.

Manual or the auto\sportshift?

I have the sportshift and I do get some shaking sometimes when its cold and I head out on the thruway. Going to bring it up when I take it in for its first service apppointment next week.

My fathers 02 WRX had a slight clutch shudder issue and my 95 Impreza has a more noticeable clutch shudder. On both cars it happened when the clutch was cold, and only from starting from a stop, never happened while changing gears after you got it rolling. When this happens is it a heavy WOT load on the engine and hard shifting or is it nice an smooth just cruising along?

My guess is a warped flywheel or toasted clutch.... by chance did you learn to drive stick with the Baja?

Default Update...

Well after having the Baja at the dealership for 2 nights they are telling me it might be a gas issue. They told me to watch how my car reacts on a low tank of gas...Fill it up with 94 and some dry gas and cycle out a few tanks and see if it continues. The service manager didnít feel a shudder but one of the techs did..So for now I will just do that. Also they told me there is a bulletin out for clutch problems with the Bajaís but mine came already with the updated parts...Grr!!!

If I shift mine hard and high in the rpm band, it also shudders, but its more like a shimmy -- a rubbery feel. Is that what yours feels like? Because I think that is actually somewhat common for the bajas, my theory is that it is a combination of turbo lag and rubbery clutch/transmission engagement.

If you are near wilkes-barre or scranton at some point email me ezerner@yahoo.com and you can drive mine to see if its the same as yours, or I can drive yours and see.

Is there a TSB # for the clutch issue? I have 5000 miles on my BT and I am concerned about the clutch... very jerky takeup and shudder at low speeds and light throttle... It's been a pain to drive smoothly for the last year...

I drive the stink out of it, but to be honest, it shifts better when driven hard. Trying to drive smoothly in Seattle's evil Stop-N-Go traffic is painful...

If there is a TSB, I want to take my care into the dealer and have them take a look...

The Turbos came with the updated parts the service manager told me. However I did not drive my car for two days and just today I was having some shudder once again. It is around 1/4 tank tho but I do not believe it is a gas issue since the last 2 tanks I let the light come on (yes I know its bad and I usually dont do it but I just wanted to try it...) I guess I will give the dealer a call once again on monday. I also drive my car like I stole it and it dosnt happen to me either when I drive hard. It seems when I am just pulling out of my driveway and through town or where I have to keep it slow.

I tried to grand-pa the BT around for the last week and I still get the clutch shudder... oh welll...

I guess I will just have to save up for a better clutch from Rallitek... (and probably flywheel and pressure plate)...

I was complaining about it to my neighbor who has a '99 Forester and he has had similar issues... hard to engage reverse (or sometimes first), notchy shifter and a grabby clutch... he had the clutch replaced around 55K miles for $900...

Anyways, I think I will take the car in sometime in the coming weeks and see what the dealer says... I will keep y'all posted...
