Legacy JDM tail lights

I just spent 549.00$ on JDM tail lights, these things better be worth it. So with my ugly orange tail lights I am going to attempt to sand out the color and make them clear. Is there a better way to do this or just sand and hope something happens?

Yeah, American dollars. But its not just the corners, its the center strip too, the JDM center strip says legacy instead of subaru. I think I got ripped off too but you have to pay a price to be different

$549.00 is alot for JDM tails. Also, unless you have the BG the center section will not fit properly on the USDM legacy. The JDM tails are nice though, so I hope you enjoy them.

Yeah, you pretty much got abused on that transaction. There is a complete 3 piece set on ebay right now for $200 and last week a pair of just corners sold for $19.95.

You should have jdm projectors AND the tails for that kind of money. Anyways, I think you will just ruin the USDM tails if you try to sand them.

Jared

PS: I was patient and got both the tails and garnish for around $100, shipped.

Just for reference, the JDM tails are approx. $300 *brand new* from the dealership (that's what I paid 2 years ago).

Also, you can't sand the orange out of the taillight because the entire lens is orange plastic. I've seen some guys paint the orange part red if you want to try something with your old lights...

Here is what the JDM center looks like on a US trunk.

You can see the space around the reverse lights.

This is my friend's car and he does have the JDM rear corners to, but there not install in this pic.

I was surpised when I was able to ebay my JDM center section (came as a package deal with corners) considering the center section fits as poorly as AFBeefcake's pic shows...and I got the whole thing for $200 shipped to me from Japan.

Sorry, but you got ripped.

But those are wagon tail lights, not sedan. Sedan tail lights are rare, its like 3:1 wagon to sedan. The wagon tails dont fit the sedan despite what that ebay auction says

Damn, someone got raped in that first post.
For that price, you could have gotten all the JDM lights, probably shipped from NZ...

I just sold my JDM projectors for US$350 and I threw in a set of fender markers for free.

Anyone have this pic, since the link is dead? I'm curious to see how bad the mismatch is.

No no no. There's a mismatch between the JDM center piece and the USDM trunk lid. I've read that here (and quoted it), I just don't know what it looks like.

I already have the JDM corners and USDM center piece and concur that it looks just fine. I've just seen a couple sets with the center piece on Ebay recently, and was curious how bad the fitment was.

Oh, my bad. Yes, differences between centerpieces.....carry on.

<-- *stupid lack of reading skills!*

WARNING: gratuitous shot of previous car

But this is what you're really looking for Pat (JDM centerpiece):

So from that it looks like the JDM trunk lid has a more narrow recess for the license plate. Our reverse lights go into the license plate recess, while the JDM reverse lights are flat, hence the mismatch. It does seem like that would look rather crappy.
