Default Another AP problem

OK so i figured my used ap is unmarried so I am trying to update it with the new software but i am having a problem with getting it connected to my pc now. Everytime i try and connect it i get an error message on my PC saying Bad Accessport communication (0x86 0x10). Contact tech support. I am using a usb serial adapter. I did called cobb and they didnt help at all. I have an email out to accessecu now too. Any of u guys have an idea whats wrong here?

Phil

i think you need to hold down the up& down key when you turn the AP on. or you need to marry it to the car first before it will connect to the PC.

i just got my ST a few minutes ago and i'm starting to load everything right now

Did you try the map manager's "configure communications" function?

You may need to go into the device manager in control panel/system/hardware, and make sure the map manager is trying to communicate with the AP on the correct usb controller.

Make sure you have any drivers installed for the usb to serial connector (I doubt there are any but you never know). Make sure that you have the correct port selected in the EDIT: AccessPORT......Configure Communications submenu

im having a similar problem too. Let me start off by saying i HATE these stupid updates. the directions are straightforward yet is still difficult to accomplish. I have downloaded the newly reporgramed 04 file to change it back from 2005 to 2004 specfic. Well when i final begin to reintialize the update back to 2004 an error messsage contains "Unable to write valid data to accessport"
when i connect to the map manager is reads connected as 2005

unmarried-yes
connected to pc mode- yes
insturctions read over and over- yes
call cobb and the best they can say is send it in.
HAS anyone successfully performed the newly revisied 04 update addressing the stalling issue?

Yes, I have.

I also had a problem with the AP communicating with my computer.

Open map manager 1.6.2 and click on the accessport tab. Select configure communications, and select autodetect.

If that doesn't work, than go into device manager and see what port the AP is plugged into and manually select it in map manager.

ya I think the main problem i am having is with my pc so i think i might send it to cobb too and have them mess with it. Besides by the time i get it back I should have all my exhaust parts for stage 2

no i have a usb/serial adapter. I do not have a serial port on my pc so i had to buy a usb adpater for it to make it work and i think i wasted my money on it.

The adapter I bought at BestBuy is a Dynex Brand made by Prolific and it says USB PDA/ Serial Adapter. I am pretty sure the problem I am having is just with my pc and the cable and has nothing to do with the AP itself

this is what it says on the screen on my pc when i open the window for the AP map manager program and i try to connect it with my AP "ERROR: Bad AccesPORT communication (0x86 0x10). Contact tech support"
I am really about to just step on my pc and send the AP back to cobb and have them program it the way I want it.
