Thanks guys.

Nationwide Auto Insurance is imposing a new $1500 stereo replacement cap. I'm told it went into effect in late 2004, but somehow I missed the ammendment...
That should repace the LCD and Sub, and that's about it. No fun.

My Nationwide Homeowners will cover up to $2000 of the rest. That will likely cover Amps and hopefully install, but not much more. So, looks like I'm SOL on the CDs and other personal property that was stolen and will have to fork over for the install/box that insurance won't cover. No fun at all.

Original/replacement cost of everything stolen is near $10,000. OUCH!

Hey Jacob,

Did you have an alarm?

I posted in the NW forum about my Bro's S2000 being stolen. Supposedly the S2k has a chip/key security. Apparently it isn't very effective.

Just a few weeks ago, my co-workers car was broken into, also at work (Microsoft). His Makita Drill, laptop, desktop he had in the car was also stolen.

Seattle area is getting pretty bad with the car thieves, it's the lax punishment I think.

Oh, I was also thinking, what's the likelihood it was someone who knew about your system.

BD Legacies are not exactly hot on the theft radar item.

Hi Ken,

Yes I have a high-quality alarm, but no, I don't believe it was on the day of the break in. I've been having a problem with falses lately, so I didn't set the alarm while parked on the street, in an effort to not disturb others. The alarm will be replaced by my shop under warranty (a day late and $$$ dollars short).

I did lock all doors and had "The Club" in place on the wheel as a deterent. I also have Clifford Alarm stickers on both front windows. Still, I can't help but think the alarm would have prevented the vandalism...

You're right, Legacies are not the most flashy cars, but you can look at mine and tell that it is not stock and has money in it. All of my stereo equipment and CD were out of sight, so they gambled on breaking in, especially with my dark windows, as it's difficult to see inside the car.

My job is new, and I often ride my Harley to work, so it's extremly unlikely that someone know my car or my system (other than a thief having cased my car for a few days prior to the break in). None of my coworkers at the Pac Med building knew which car was mine or that I had any stereo/video equipment. I also never drive to or from work with my stereo loud enough for anyone outside of the car to hear, or leave my LCD monitor folded out of the dash when I park. Just bad Karma I guess.

You may want to post some fliers in the area too...since it was daytime, someone had to see something going on and maybe thought the car was broken down and the 'owner' was trying to fix it.

...maybe put a picture of the car and put 'PLEASE CALL XXX IF YOU NOTICED ANY ACTIVITY AROUND THIS CAR ON XXXDATEXXX BETWEEN XXXTIMEXXX ... CASH REWARD FOR CONVICTION'

And offer 100 bucks or something if you catch em. I bet you'll get a vehical description(used for hauling all of your stuff) or maybe a criminal description to help your case.

At this point, getting your stuff back is probably out of the question, but the look on theifs face when he goes to jail may be worth the extra hassel.

that sucks man, good luck with that.

If you are looking to replace your stuff i am going to be selling my in-dash touchscreen kenwood with brain underseat as well as all my speakers/sub/amps. also i know its not eclipse but if you dont get as much for your stuff this would be cheaper and its all in great shape.

sorry not trying to just sell my stuff, sucks that you got your stuff stolen, just giving out the offer.

good luck with everything.

Were you paying extra insurance to cover all the aftermarket parts? Because I thought that insurance companies didn't have to cover anything aftermarket, unless it was declared/ documented/ had premiums paid to insure it.
(I know this is true in MA. I'd guess other states are similar?)

Ouch indeed. That's more money in electronics than your car is worth.
Sucks.

Jacob, Sorry to hear about the break in. How is the car other than the stolen equipment? Once you replace all your audio and video components, I would suggest you contact you insurance broker and get more coverage on the items you put in the car. The $1500 cap is the same here in Canada, but you can get additionally coverage on the other items in case of theft. My system is worth about $10 000 + as well but it's all covered and I think I pay something like $30 CAD more a month. All your insurance company will need is a copy of your receipts for proof. You may want to look into it, it's worth it.

Good luck

That sux. Try the flier idea, at least you have more of a chance of nailing the bastages who did this. Or you could replace everything, and set-up a camera to tape the car all day long. Someone here caught a guy keying his car on tape.

Hope things work out with the insurance. Maybe NASIOC can help burn some new CD's for ya!

Peace,

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Unfortunatley this is the first I've heard of the Insurance $1500 stereo cap. 7 years ago I had a different car vandalized and they covered everything, over $5000. I spoke with my insurance rep. and they said the $1500 cap was imposed in late 2004 and that a notice was mailed to me (hidden in my renewal notice).
My bad. I should have paid closer attention. I will definitly consider paying for the extra coverage this time around.

As far as CDs go, I'm really just mad that I won't get the $$ I paid for them. I don't really listen to CDs in my car much, as I had an MP3 player connected to my system. My new system will definitely include an iPod interface (possibly Alpine). So, in the future, there won't likely be more than 5 CDs or DVDs in my car at any one time.

Luckily I used to do marketing for a radio company, so I have no shortage of music (on my computer and MP3 players).

That really sucks man. That's why all I have is a HU and speakers. Too afraid of having it stolen, and I don't live in a high-theft area.

Alpine would be good to go with for iPod compatability. Also, Pioneer has adapters for its higher-end HUs for use with them, but I'd go with Alpine. iPods rock. I just got a shuffle (baby brother to the mini), and LOVE it.

I leave my sunroof cover open (but the sunroof itself is closed) so theives will see in my car EASIER. Since I don't leave stuff laying out, the extra light coming in through roof helps show the car has no easy valuables to steal. Since you had tinted windows, they probably thought that "chance" they were taking would pay off. After all flashy cars with tinted windows usually have flashy stereos to match. Try hiding things and letting more light into car so people car see in easier and "not" see anything to steal...

Man that sucks, I was thinking about relocating to the Seattle area too… Everybody’s just so nice there. Even the car thieves who steal yo crap but don’t tear the entire dash and interior up doing it…

Sorry to hear this man…

Thanks xcntrk75.

Unfortunately they did tear up the dash and carpet, but kindly unplugged most of the electrical connections without much cutting.

Seattle is great. Love the location and the people. The socal scene / nightlife is lacking for a large metro city though.
