Question '06 2.5L WRX/STi Difference?

Is Subaru going to use the same powerplant for both the WRX and the STi in 2006. I assume the difference will be in the go-go goodies.

2.5l in the wrx yes
same turbo & engine mods no, no one really knows what the output on the new wrx is going to be...

Lets see,

Intercooler, Injectors, Turbo, guessing internals, ecu, rear differentitial, gearbox, front bumper, wings (sti has roof wing), sideskirts, rear under defuser, seats, brakes, struts, rear swaybar, a-arms, trailing arms, springs, wheels, headlights, seats, carpet, doorcards, doorpulls, shiftrim, steeringwheel, gauge cluster, sti has no fogs.

Probably not the whole list, but I bet I am close

Engine wise, my guess is WRX will probably share an engine with the new Legacy GT, which to the best of my knowledge (but don't quote me on this) is the same block, internals, and injectors as the STi. The intercoolers, heads, turbos, ECU, etc. are different.

WRX will probably cost $28k-$30k also. Expect to pay another $5k-$6k for the STi.

I seriously doubt this...it would price them right out of the market.

Yeah the base price of the WRX can't defuse from 23-25k for the "average" buyer. That's what the LegacyGT line is for.

Just a FYI:
2005 WRX sedan w/premium package before options- MSRP=$26,545
2005 Legacy GT Limited before options- MSRP=$28,745

I believe my guesstimates to be pretty accurate as far as MSRP goes with options.

my turn
my guess is that it will have the
same block (as sti/fxt/bajaxt/LGT)
same heads (as sti/fxt/bajaxt/LGT)
same cam (as sti/fxt/bajaxt/LGT)
same injectors (as sti/fxt/bajaxt/LGT)
same ECU as (as sti/fxt/bajaxt/LGT)-differnt maps same ecu
same turbo as (as fxt/bajaxt/2.0wrx)
same manafold as fxt/bajaxt/sti(its just painted)
whoa do we see a pattern here

the move to all 2.5Ts actually makes less parts to stock

Pricing the WRX at $28k or $30k (premium) would be stupid. I would simply buy the LGT wagon (limited). For $29k, I would get more cargo room, 20 more hp, 2 sunroofs, a much much much better interior, a better looking car with the only negative being slightly more weight. That would *kill* the WRX wagon, essentially, especially when a non limited LGT comes in at $27k. I don't see a price increase of more than $500 for the base WRX.

To each their own... that's why different models exist.

Says the bugeye owner.

The LGT is a sharp looking car. I love the WRX wagon, and will possibly buy an 06, but given the choice, I would take the LGT any day. I think it does practically everything better... especially looks! I don't think that I want a $30k loan right out of college when I can have a $24k loan, though.

Yea I doubt the that it'll be priced higher than a LGT. If they do they then someone at FHI needs to be fired.

The STi manifold and WRX manifold are not the same.. the STi is throttle by wire and has a totally different setup and also has side feed injectors that go into the intake manifold.. so those two guesses are out of the question.

I think I heard the new 2.5L in the wrx will have drive by wire.

There is likely a increase in price coming for the WRX. Subaru has remove the "plain" GT Legacy and made all Legacy turbo's Limited; so a slight upscale price move for the WRX could happen. Just relax and wait for the press release.

i just got back from irvine subaru and looked at the 06 STi and wrx.. the wrx is not more money than previously its still 24XXX. i didnt ask much about the 2.5L so i dont know much about it wxcept appearance...The new SUbaru grills and front ends arent cutting it for me at all..I do like the fact that the wrx got JDM subaru brakes on themm they look sick!@!! BUt if you put a 06 side by side with a 04-05 you can tell the 04-05 look way nicer....And i still have tons of luv for my bugged eyed rexs as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does the '06 WRX still have the same 5-100 wheel bolt pattern? Has the wheel offset changed?

www.subaru.com is updated with the 06 Impreza starting at:

Impreza 2.5i sedan - $18,295
Impreza 2.5i sport wagon - $18,295
Impreza WRX sedan - $24,995
Impreza WRX wagon - $24,495

Limited package is $2,500 for the WRX. According to the site, that includes an automatic transmission as well. So, you are looking at $27.5k for a WRX sedan limited in an auto. The site also add $1000 to the price of the car regardless of the transmission you choose, so I'm guessing that there is a bug in there somewhere. (this was for the WRX wagon, btw. the sedan page worked fine) My guess is it will be the following for the limited packages:

Impreza WRX sedan (limited) 5MT - $27,500
Impreza WRX sedan (limited) 4EAT - $28,500
Impreza WRX sport wagon (limited) 5MT - $27,000
Impreza WRX sport wagon (limited) 4EAT - $28,000

Now, if the limited package does truely add a 4EAT to the car, remove the limited 5MT from the picture. You can't get a WRX sedan with the 4EAT without getting the limited package, according to the website.
