Default Tire Advice

I just purchased some rims and now looking to get some good summer tires.

I have posted in the Tire/Wheels Section but wanted to get a local opinon also. I live in Calgary but any Canadian opinon would be great.

In my search and asking around I have heard good things about Falken FK-451 and Kumho Ecsta MXs so i made a poll here:

Post in that thread or this one. Thx!

Falken Azenis RT-615 gets my vote for good bang for the buck. Kumho MX are good as well but I prefer the Falken (tried both).

Get rain tires for summer and winter tires for winter.

Or if you really need All Seasons then goodyear Triple Tread Assurance look pretty good.

I just use my Blizzak LM18's year round. Snow tires without the soft compound problems.

Check out tirerack.com as Jitenshakun said.
lots of reviews and you can specify for just Subaru owners reviews.
That's where I got my tires from, best deal even with all the shipping and other fees versus going local. But if you want to buy in Calgary. mytires is the place to go.

If you are looking for max dry grip, you can't go wrong with the MX or RT-615. I've had the MX and the older Azenis and they are great Max Grip Summer tires. I've heard good things about the FK-451's and KDW's too, as they have a bit less dry grip then the MX or RT-615, but are slightly better in the wet. Be aware though there are trade-offs with dedicated summer rubber as with road noise, tramlining, and caught out driving in freak snow storm!

Have no complaints about the Toyo T1Rs.

I just got the Hankook Ventus RS-2. A bit cheaper than the Toyos - probably not as good in the wet though. I haven't got to an autox yet but on first impressions I like them: don't tramline as much as the Yokos (ES100s) I had on before (in spite of being wider - 225 not 215), seem pretty quiet even when pushed hard.

Keep an eye on this thread

Toyo T1S!

3rd season! okay, barely any tread life left.

But handles excellent in rain and great dry.

I'd agree on the T1S but they are being dis-continued since the T1Rs are coming out...and apparantley they're supposed to be a lot better than the T1S minus the dreaded tread life...so T1R is the way to go (if u have good cash)

I'm on Falken Ziex. They are are an all season that I use for summer (never can tell what you'll run into out here)! I think they're great. Awesome in the rain, and quite sticky in the dry, too. I got them at Kaltire.
