Unhappy My car really sucks!!

OK, I got into it today with a Honda Civic that was lowered, had Altezza rear lights and stock (very small) exhaust. I did not see V-tech on the back or SI or any damn thing except for Civic. Not even any stickers. Anyway, I could not pass him and he could out excelerate me but only barely. This car has always felt slow ('99 auto RS) and today I proved it. I am so pissed. This was not a stop-go race. We were already on the highway with no one in sight and I was in 3rd instead of OD.

I am running a somewhat stock intake with borla headers and stromung exhaust. Also have 205x50x16 tires. The car runs fine, idles fine, gets great gas mileage but seems so darned slow. I just don't get it. Everyone else talks about how fast their cars are (sans turbo of course) but damn! Maybe I have a lemon.

OOOOOOOO! I want a turbo REALLY BAD!

Just venting...

Well....this doesn't necessarily mean that your car sucks...just that the civic was faster....maybe it WAS a vtec or whatever and didn't want people to know. Maybe they want people to think they were beat by a stock civic so that they feel bad about their car. So don't be discouraged...cheer up or you will be falling right into their trap

UGH! I am really hoping that the JCS TCII will help out. At WOT I can tell that it's really trying. But at 3/4 WOT it pulls even better but to a point Atleast it corners like it's on rails.

You running anything different Brat?

Civics are geared for better high end speed. Some Si flew by me on Hwy 287 after I beat him off of the line at a red light.

Anyways, my RS has also felt real slow trying to accelerate at speeds above 55 mph. I barely edged out a Dodge Durango going from about 40 mph - 75 mph. (although my AC was on, I doubt that this would hamper the acceleration that much) I think that Cobb cams might be my first modification.

Hmmm...I forgot that I had my AC on as well. I was going to hit OD but there were cars up ahead and I didn't want any part of that.

I got my PAECO catalog in the mail yesterday so I might just be a guinea pig and give them a try. $1500 for head, cam and valve train work. 3 week turn around time. Pretty good deal "IF" they do a good job and use high quality parts.

Had the money for a turbo but the wife is wearing that turbo on her finger.

I need money and MORE POWER!

Heh.. no wonder. A/C is like night and day on 4 bangers. On my WRX I can acutally feel the compressor kick on and off. It puts a HUGE drain on the power of these cars.

I rarely even turn mine on becuase it makes the drive so "blah".

Run em again without the AC on and I bet the results are ALOT different.

Food for thought. Stay outta Fifth gear for as long as possible (~90MPH@redline). Of course thats not really possible in a slushbox.

oh well

Brian's slushbox is relatively quick from 20mph - 90 mph.

Mods to his MY98 are JCS intake, S-AFC, and GanzFlow 2.5" exhaust.
