Default Just bought a 2000 rs, looks kinda empty under the hood, need pics

I just bought a 2000 2.5 rs. The guy said it was pretty much stock, but when i went to get it, it had a CAI, a unorthodox pulley, stromung cat back and kyb agx struts.

Anyway, there are some cut wires? and bent brackets under the hood and it looked, well, bare

anyway, anyone have some pics of rs engine bays? with or without CAIs?

also, a service manual would be nice.

help out a new gc8 owner

Thats what my engine bay looks like, a 2.5rs. Only with the CAI, all that big black box on the left, the tube and the rectangle behind the engine will be gone, depending on the type. So my engine bay looks very empty on the left side. Talk to Subiegal about getting stock manuals, I think she could hook you up. Or search around the vendor forums. If your looking for repair manuals, Im not sure which one is considered the best. And giving you an extra cent of advice, if that pulley is underdriven, I would strongly consider swapping it out for a lightweight stock diameter one. But all that is just my .03

Damn, man, did you buy the car sight unseen? You're a braver man than I (or have a lot more money you're willing to toss away). At least you bought the car from someone who knew what they were talking about and therefore should be pretty trustworthy. Oh, wait...

heh,
i was with imprzya when we looked at the car the cut wire is from the factory alarm probly a speaker of some sort that is the only cut wire as far as the pully its not under driven just lightened...
the car has a rough body/interior
however it has low milage and is in good mechanical condition and it was had for a VERY reasonable price

btw i know what to look for in a car when purchaseing one and this one was a steal for the price and we are in the process of finding what needs to be repaired/ replaced that is why imprzya is digging for info

personally i would rather buy a used car from someone who knows NOTHING about it, at least that way you know it hasnt been messed with. this guy bought the car from a previous owner that did all the mods to it him self so the current owner had no idea what was on it or what had been done to it.

Pat,
Impryza is a woman.

Impryza,
Anyways, not to worry, your engine bay isn't missing anything but that horrid black box. You generally have to bend one of the mounting brackets to install the CAI. Try Ravensblade for an FSM. It is run by one of our moderators and they sell digital copies of FSM's for pretty cheap. And of course, you know you can always contact me directly for any questions you may have.

One other comment. There is pretty much zero empirical evidence to support the idea that a lightened undriven pulley causes any issues on these engines. I have had mine on for 120+k mi will no ill effects. AND in recent times, that has been run in conjunction with a 13lb Exedy flywheel, cams, and 11.5:1 CR...

the cut wires were traced back to the stock security system control box its a red and black wire wraped in a black sheathing and goes into the firewall just to the right of the brake master cylinder.

i've heard that the alarm will randomly go berserk, he might have, and that might have solved his problem......

I didnt mean problems with the pulley as far as harmonics and breaking the engine or whatever, but rather with the charging differences. Depending on what electronics are run, it could cause some minor problems. Ive just heard many people complain about that, thats all

Thanks for the pics, they helped a lot. I guess i am just used to looking at the cluttered wrx engine bay, so when i could see ground in the rs engine bay, i thought something was wrong

yeah the stock intake baffling is REDICULOUS. it takes up waay too much space and the bay looks naked without it.

anon. wolf- is that really ram-air? it looks more like 75-degree-unneccessary-bend air to me.
