Default JDM Legacy 3.0R Spec.B Tuned by STi

I wish I could read Japanese so that I could understand this article:
http://www.webcg.net/WEBCG/impressions/000016818.html

I get the impression that STi didn't tune up that engine, though.

Here's my translation attempt-

The Legacy is tuned by STI. There was an event, Works Tuning Ride Day, which was attended by 5 tuning divisions from different car manufacturers. Two guys from webCG, Motosuwa & Kondou, drove the Legacy and their comments make the entire article.

The car is upgraded using STi parts. No mentions of engine mods - but they did say Brembos, pads, brake hoses, suspenison, Recaros, tires. Stable corning, significantly decreased body roll, controllable brakes - touch and response are both good. They couldnt pick out the best aspect of the Legacy, but they like the overall feel of the car - a high quality car.

Interestingly they mention that STI has been on record as saying that they had issues with developing aftermarket parts since the OEM parts are good. The parts they came up with were either not cost-effective for mass production, or random parts only engineers could appreciate. The reviewers felt that passionate engineers holding high standards with their careful attention to detail formed the STI tuned 3.0R Legacy Spec-B, and called it an adult's tuning car.

No engine bay improvements, other than a panel filter from STi. Rear mufflers by STi only. Suspension and brake improvements mainly, along with some interior trim bits. Still haven't had the free time to get out to drive it, though I did shoot it at the last press day.

Cheers,

makes you wonder what STi would do with a USDM Spec-B if it had a 2.5L Turbo motor...

They would put on a bit better suspension (easier to do with the USDM Legacy), bigger wheels with better rubber, brembo's, and a panel filter and rear mufflers. And then some interior trim and all-important 'tuned by STi' badges. And charge you a lot for it.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Agreed. One doesn't have too look far to find better rubber than the RE92s. With the STi being the obvious exception, it's irritating that you have to budget for new tires when purchasing a new scooby here in the states.

Pity is seems we'll never know...

FWIW, the one shown is the 3.0 6MT riding on 215/45R18 (f) 225/40R18 (r), and from what I can read of the Japanese, it's like everyone else said, the emphasis is on tuning the suspension, not the motor.

They talk about how the challenge was to get the wagon to handle corners better, reduce roll; and add responsive brakes and springs. Overall, the review liked the changes.

Again, why can't SOA get it through its corporate head that there's a definite (perhaps small) market for a USDM Legacy Spec-B/STi??

I have simple wants: give me a F-STi to replace my FXT, and give me a Legacy Spec-B/STi 6MT (2.5L T please) to go with it.

Why is that so impossible for SOA to accomplish here what they do everywhere else?

Subaru feels Singapore needs an F-STi, yet the states dont.

I've fired off a snail-mail (it shows more effort/seriousness etc) about once every 6 months, and an email about every 3months pestering them about the F-STi and the Legacy Spec-B/STi ever since I came back from Japan.

It's really just to make me feel like I'm doing something, I know SOA doesn't care.

Well, SOA can't bring everything over here... they really need to pickup the sales of the current products before going through with the extra costs of adding another model...
with that being said.

Kill off the 2.5i Limited Wagon, and bring us this!
