Default At 80mph 3750 rpm normal?

I have a MY99LOB wagon which has the 4.11 gears and i'm wondering what kinda rpms you guys are running at freeway speeds? 4k just seems so high for cruising down the road. would a different gear ratio change this? or do i have an engine issue, or is this just how subaru's 4 banger revs. thanks for any info.

Try having RA gears

more like 4500rpm at 80 mph,

but ya, that seems normal

Actually, the RA gearset looks to be a bit lower than that:

Normal for us BE guys, too (at least me). Not sure what the exact RPMs are at ~80, but it's definitely past 3k.

Yeah, Its normal for a Subaru.
When I first bought my '99 Legacy GT I really THOUGHT it was something of a buzz-bomb. I wasn't really sure I wanted to keep the car. I guess its what you are used to. Curiously enough, after having been on some rather longish trips, I find that the engine feels "right" in that RPM range. What bugs me the most now is running in the 2,700 to 3,100 RPM ranges (say 55 to 65 MPH) for long periods, in this (road legal) speed range the car feels something like a "tug boat" - sort of a rough running blat-blat-blat. My Phase I DOHC flat four doesnt really come 'alive' until you hit 4,800 RPM. From here to red line is where the engine feels silky smooth and its most powerful.

Normal.
I get ~3560 RPM @ 80 MPH.
That is with fairly stock tires and a 5MT (granted, the tire size makes no difference in the indicated speed, only actual)
