Default Downpipe to work with Borla 3" catback

I just bought a Helix catless uppipe and I'm getting ready to buy a downpipe and a Borla 3" STi catback for my WRX. I want to find a downpipe that is the proper length to meet up with the Borla and that retains one cat. Does anyone have any suggestions?

most DP are suitable for your needs- Some shorty DPs may have a slight gap at best... but feel free to pick one that suits your demands.

is it true that the Helix catless downpipe will eliminate both post-turbo cats?

since you're running a catless UP, yes. There would only be one cat in the system if you did a catted DP

My Borla 3" necks down at the 3rd cat to use the 2.5" donut gasket. It's designed similar to the stock flange.

The Helix DP, on the other hand, has IIRC a flat flange. I've heard of leaks with this kind of setup.

I went with a Stomung shorty DP, and a 3" Daddy's 3rd Cat Elmininator that necks down to the donut gasket. No leaks, sounds raw as hell.

TKDK- I was just thinking about running this exact set up.. are you running the 3" adapter from Daddy's as well?
Are you placing the stock 3rd cat inline for testing?
How's the smell of the car when you're running catless?
How do you like the quality of the Strohmung?
sorry don't mean to TJ, but I'm wondering this. Course this info may apply to Scuuby as well... depending on what he chooses to do.

advanracing62:

My exhaust reduces at the stock donut-gasket; the reason being, I can easily swap in teh 3rd cat for Emissions or noise reasons. I went with the 3CE for this reason, that when I leave my 'race pipe' in, I still get the HeatShield faking a cat (just don't look at the piping into the heatshield.. )

Catless exhaust is definitely stinky, thats just the nature of the beast. With my factory up-pipe, it wasn't too bad; After I installed my Helix UP, the Scoob smells like my dads '73 Camaro. Still bearable, but you can tell.

I like my Stromung, a good piece for the $ IMO. I've heard that some people had a problem with the wastegate divider fitting into the turbo improperly and interfering with the wastegate, but I didn't have this problem at all. Easy install, would def. buy again.

Hope this long-winded reply helps.

advan,

you don't need the 3" adaptor if you are connecting to the stock cat. You only need that if you are connecting to the longer 3" downpipes (i.e. helix).
