Cool First day of the rest of my life.

Yesterday was my last day in the Marine Corps.
Places i have been to:
Bootcamp, Sandiego Ca
Combat Training, Camp Pendleton Ca
Avionics school, Millington TN, and P-Cola FL
Aircraft Followup School, Whidbey Island Wa
Fleet Marine Force, Cherry Point NC where i was in VMAQ-4 and VMAQ-3 (electronic warfare squadrons)
Yuma AZ multiple times for defensive tactics and weapons and tactics schools for our aircrew
Cold Lake Canada a few times for mock wars with our friendly neighbors to the north
Some airforce base in Ohio to run away from a hurricane
Aviano Italy (once for 6 months, once for 5 months) in order to blow up kosovo.
Slovenia to help feed the people displaced by the kosovo conflict.
Saudi Arabia in 2000-2001 to watch Iraq and blow up spoon radar sites.
29 Palms CA for Sergeant School, and to reinforce my hatred for the desert.
Back up to Whidbey Island WA for 4 years in the "Rag" (electronic warfare training command). While in Whidbey Island i have been on just about every Aircraft carrier in the fleet (save for the ****ty kitty), and spent many months down in El Centro. I was on the Stennis on 9/11 and was comming off my night shift when the buildings got hit.

Been a fun 9 years, but its time to move on.
This is the first day of my adult life where i have not had to do something military or know that i would be doing something military in the near future. Got my walking papers yesterday, came home, and hung up my cammies.

I don't regret one moment of it. Pay was good and the job was fun.
Now i plan on going to school in the fall for Diesel technology and possibly putting on a few pounds .

C/N i am out of the Marines, 9 years, was one hell of a fun ride.

you're not gonna be one of those ex-marines who flies the flag in his front yard, puts the stickers on every vehicle, peppers his conversations with ". . . when i was in the Corps . . ." and does stupid **** like teasing a Ranger who just got back from Afghanistan to "join a real branch" are you?

You can always fall back on a civilian contractor position in avionics. Congrats on a couple good tours and your "freedom." Don't go on any McDonald's killing sprees.

ohyeah, i forgot to say thanks too. i didn't mean any disrespect, it's just that the proudest marine always seems to be a former marine.

BTW, the Ranger ended up knocking the ex-Marine the fudge out.

So what you are saying is that it is bad to fly an American flag in his front yard? Commie. Congrats Erik. Now put on 40lbs like I did.

no no no, not the American flag . . . the Corps flag. it's usually flying over the front yard, close to the Semper Fi doormat.

Awesome.

I'll always regret not joining up, but it seems that life had different plans for me (aka my wife).

Well done, and thanks.

Haha.

You can, but it would have meant sacrificing my relationship. My wife wasn't about to follow me around the country/world.

I made a concious choice of her over the service, and although I've never regretted that, I wish I could have somehow reconciled the two.

Ahhh. I see. No flag on my house. I just painted the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on the front instead.

No
but it is very hard to keep a realtionship together while in the military. Especially if you are in a high tempo squadron or unit.

I did three deployments in my first three years in the fleet. Pretty busy for pre Iraq invasion America.

Relationships that would of worked in the civilian world where the man and woman are always together often fail when one is gone for 6 months at a time.

Military life is quite a crucible for relationships, if he/she can survive then you know you have a winner.

I don't plan on putting up a USMC flag instead i am seriously kicking around the idea of installing a "bat box" though, and to hell with the neighbors.
And the thought of wiping my feet on a USMC door mat is pretty revolting, kinda like flushing the Koran down the ****ter to some people.

The military was great to me, i highly reccomend it to anyone who thinks they have it bad here in the United States.
