Question Opinion: sti ver 7 gr2

Hello

I drive an 02 rs.
Daily driver
50% perfectly smooth road
50% rough, broken concrete road.

Occational Autocross use but mostly for canyon runs and rough back roads. Long road trips in ugly winter weather.
Current setup
stock struts and springs
22mm whiteling FSB, WRX 20mm RSB, Steering mounts, 225/50/16 Mounted on 16x7 rim.

I think I have narrowed my search down to
Koni/ Prodrive
Spec C
Koni/ stock springs
I rather not lower my car but a little is okay.
Please provide Pros and Cons:
I don't want or need coilovers and I will be going with Grp N top mounts.

I like the stock setup but I want a hair more stiffness and damping.

I have to consider a baby and wife friendly setup.

Thank you for you input.

Shawnrs

The most universally loved combo I've seen on this forum is Koni/Prodrive. A nice upgrade, but not too stiff - great for a daily driver. But, it's a bit more than "a little" lowering: -1.5" give or take.

The SpecC setup is a little more than "a hair more stiffness." It's not a punishing setup, but it's oriented more towards performance than comfort. It might not pass the wife test. The STi struts in particular are not known for their comfort. Koni's are better in that regard.

Konis with stock springs would be better than stock, but not by a lot. If you use the adjustable dampers to add a lot of stiffness you aren't getting from the springs, you just end up with an overdamped setup - not optimum. Personal experience speaking there. Upgrading to WRX springs would add a bit of stiffness, but not a lot.

You might want to consider Konis with V7 STi RA springs. They won't lower much - a half inch or so. With the Konis they would be a good upgrade but still pass the wife test. Look on this webpage under "STi Factory Spring Sets" for "STi RA Factory Spring Set for MY02-03 Impreza Sedan."

Question What about GR2 and Version 7 sti ra springs

Anyone know how this setup would work?

Gr2 (30% more damping than stock) with Version 7 RA springs?

sorry to high jack but i was thinking about struts and springs so i dont wanna make a new thread

i was thinking of using sti struts like the ones from jdmpartstx.com because of the cheap price and tein h-tech cause of the looks and isnt as harsh. i know little about suspension so im not sure which version sti strut will fit my 2002 wrx wagon and dont know if that combo will work.

thanks for the help in advance.

Shawn, the GR-2's apparently are more like 15-20% more damping than stock. I'm considering using them with my Prodrives, which have similar rates to the V7 springs. I figure the Prodrives are about 20% stiffer than stock, so it should be a good match. DrBiggly says that a friend of his had GR2's, and did NOT decrease lap times when he upgraded to AGX's (he had Prodrives on both springs).

disaster, V7 struts will fit your car. The wagon struts are the best choice, but the sedan struts will fit if you pick up a set of camber bolts for the front, from what I understand.
