H1, same as the US ones. Not sure about the pattern, I'd expect a reverse of the US pattern but there may not be as much of a difference between US/JDM as there was with the bugeye EDM/JDM lights.
Regardless you should read the HID FAQ thread before installing HIDs in either housing, the results are not good with aftermarket retrofits in the 04/05 lights. The best solution is a set of the USDM STi HIDs.

US Spec headlight (low beam) use an H1 bulb (WRX/RS)
US Spec STi (Low Beam) is D2S

I believe the STi and even WRX/RS non HID overseas uses an H4 bulb, but do not quote me on this.

If you have a full H4 HID kit, then purchase some H1 bulbs and plug the kit in to the car, it might not be a direct PnP but it'll be a minimal amount of electrical work.

The sell your old H4 bulbs here or on ebay, all the GC bodies were H4... so theres a buyer group.

Yeah i'd thought of selling the H4's but i'm not sure how good the market is on used HID's even thought they have about 2 hours total on them ... I will have to researcha place that sells good bulbs for less .. I will probably end up spending around 200.00 either way.. On bulbs that is.

Thanks for the info..

Always appreciated
