Question 2.5 GT horns

I want to replace the anemic factory horns on my 2005 2.5 GT Wagon.

I know they are there. I can hear them.

Where are they?

I have looked all over the engine compartment and they are doing an excellent job of hiding. I expect that someone will tell me that I have to remove the headlight modules because the horns are behind/below them. A task I would like to avoid if possible.

If I can't get to the horns, is there somewhere I can get to the wires to the horns?

Oh yeah, and related. Anyone know where I can get a manual for the car? The very expensive factory shop manuals are a bit out of range.

I'd think they're behind the grill as on the Imprezas although I haven't looked closely enough at an 05 Legacy to confirm.
As for manuals, you can go to the Subaru tech website and get the $34.95 subscription for 72 hours to download the manuals in electronic form. It's tedious but a great bargain compared to the cost of the print version.

Thanks a lot for the tip on the electronic manuals.

The location of the horns was located in the "Communications System" section. ????????????

They are supposed to be behind the bumper and below the headlights on the right side. I have to check, but they might be accessed thru the wheel well 'mud guard'.

Wish I would have seen this thread earlier...

You have a PM about where to find the service manuals...

And the two best ways of gaining access to the horns are:

1) remove the airbox.
2) remove the clips in the fender liner and bend it out of the way.

Oh, and by the way, there are two horns in there.

They each have one wire going to them, and they are grounded through the horn body where it mounts to the car.

This makes for a very easy solution if you'd like to use a relay to control your new horns.

I highly recommend the Hella Supertones (VERY LOUD, but VERY Directional really only good for honking at someone in front of you)

I have them mounted behind my grill on my Legacy, but I had to fab up some of my own brackets to make them fit.

I need to take the time to make a write up on LegacyGT.com
