Default Weak Hand Brake?

I've got a 2005 Turbo Manual Baja. The hand brake on this thing is incredibly weak ... on moderate hills (not talking san francisco hills) if i pull up the handbrake as far as it will go, the car still rolls backwards, which makes stopping in traffic on a hill incredibly dangerous. Has anyone else had this experience? The dealership I've sent it to (Monrovia, beware!) claims that this is normal, even after I took it on a test drive with a mechanic in the passenger seat witnessing it all. I've driven other manual cars like the mini cooper and they don't have this problem, so I don't think it's a "manual" issue. I am going to bring this up with Subaru regardless, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this defect.

Dont know if its the same but take a look: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...=parking+brake
If that dosent work try adjusting the parking brake per subaru instructions.

I like it - means I can turn on the roof lights when I am driving off road. :P

I have my Manual Turbo for less than a week and I have not noticed -- I do live in the mountains of SCAL and park on an incline so I'd rather NOT let my car slide down.

I have a feeling that your dealiership is taking you for a ride and doesn't want to do work that they should. The parking break should always stop your, from what I know of how it is suposed to work, which is limited. I live in the mountians of Santa Cruz and my parking break will not let me move at all.

I do believe state safety inspections for all 50 states require the parking bake to hold the car on inclines without any other assistance.

Us too, we live in the White Mountain foot hills, our baja brake will hold on any incline.
