Crossover pipe gaskets

Can anyone tell me what the difference between the two crossover pipe gaskets are? They are unique part numbers and one is 2x the cost of the other. I have one of them, but need the other, and don't know which one I have.

They are actualy interchangable. One has a tab that sticks out of the gasket. I have no idea why. I am sure someone else will know. Was told it was for heatshield and then I was told it was a heatsink to keep the gasket from deforming. Who knows.. When I put mine back together I used two of the cheap ones. No issues.

jeff, to go along with clark's observation, i think the tab may be so that the installer can hold it in place while bolting it up?

in any event, i have never replaced mine and i've never had a problem with either end. xover has been on/off the car maybe 5 times. i know you'd like to do everything perfectly, but you might save a few bucks you didn't need to spend in the first place. it'd buy at least half a tank of gas!

one with a "tab" is a heat dissipator since it is close
to the oil filter. the tab points toward the filter..
and other looks like a regular gasket..

Dissipating heat toward the oil filter seems counter-intuitive to me.

Weird.

Weird also that the 2002 FSM does not indicate any tab nor orientation of said tab.

Oh well.

yeah, the one on the uppipe side has the triangle "heatshield" on it.. dont know why.. but thats the way it is. I just replaced that one last week.
