Default My 2005 RS w/ my own home made exhaust

Well I finally finished my exhaust system after countless hours of work. It is a straight through design i made up which made a definate increase in power cause i can actually feel it at the pedal. It is a straight through pipe to an S-curve that leads to the muffler, No axle back, no 2 piece just a straight pipe all the way to the muffler. Enjoy lemme know if U like it.

sorry for corny pics, I have a vid clip but imageshack doesn't host mpg do you know how i can get my vid up? what site?

yea its a catback, 2.25 inch piping straigt through to the Magnaflow muffler. My wheels are Axis Hiro's 18 x 8.5 and unfortunately some jackass left a "brake disc" in the middle of the road and i didn't see it and ran it over and it chipped my lip.

looks good. How much did it run you??? I had something like that on my acura and was thinking about getting it done for my rs. It only cost me $95 bucks for my acura( I bought the muffler of a buddy for 20 bucks). It was a nice deep tone, I was thinking about having the same guy do it.

Yea it def flows good cause i can feel power from it. The entire thing ran me about 300, but thats cause i got Stainless Steel mandrel bent piping from a company called "Burned Stainless" and i ended up purchasing too many extra pipes so about 80 dollars of it went to no use, 100 for the muffler, then i took it to the muffler shop and they took a 2.25 inch pipe and bent an S-curve for me. I'll take more pics of it and get the vid up in the afternoon, putfile keeps on giving me errors. Oh yea the vid i have is really windy so bare with me it was taken on a digi cam.

I've bought from Burns Stainless before. They have the coolest pipes for every type of application.

So, give us the lenght of pipe needed, part #'s etc. I would love to do this myself but would like to "pick your brain" for the info.

thanx,
Craig

haha i dunno man i kinda like having the unique exhaust and i dont really have the part numbers but its a Straight pipe going from the cat to the axle then just ask a muffler shop to make an S-curve to the muffler.

He just did a custom catback.

Props go out to yeah You did a really good job. Get a sound clip or small vid. Be sure to stand at least 10 feet away and off to the side slightly, it will create less distortion.

Upload to www.putfile.com and linky plz

Not too shabby there Caplin. This is the kind of stuff I love seeing in this forum.

How thick are your flanges? are they home made? What type of welding did you incorporate? tig/mig/torch?

Looks and fits in there nice.

Just trying to avoid the same mistake you made and save a few bucks mainly. I understand though.

The flange is the stock flange i just welded on at a slant to fit correctly. I removed 1 cat so that still leaves 2 cats. The vid clip is really raspy sounding cause of all the wind, but the exhaust sounds sooooo beautiful, it has got a really quiet idle but this really deep rumble, i would say it is just as good if not better than the rumble an STi provides. For those wanting to make this all I would recommend about a 5 foot straight pipe and a couple of 15 degree mandrel bent pipes, and the straight pipe will have to be slightly cut as it is too long. Also I would recommend that you cut the tip where the flange will go at a slant and weld the flange on at a slant, look at the flange that attatches to the cat on ur stock exhaust system and you will see what kind of slant im talking about. The straight pipe will have a snug but perfect fit in betweent he heat sheilds then just take it to a muffler shop and tell them to make you a S-curve and weld the hangers on.

For welding I just did really corny nics to keep it together so i got the shape of it then i took it to a muffler shop to TIG weld it together, might i add they did a beautiful job. Also the reason i designed it to be straight through is the power. Straight through always = power. alotta torque too.

http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Picture-01540

enjoy vid clip (sorry for raspy wind)

Oh yea 18x8.5 on an RS is no different from a WRX. i dont get any rubbing as i am running stock suspension but if i put alotta load on my car the inside of the rear fender will slice the sidewall of my tire, it can be shaved off or rolled in the rear, but none of this will be necessary if you purchase coilovers.

Nice work! I also thought i would never tell you that.

I just finished a custom 2.5in cat-back on a friends 2.5RS, i love it. Sounds great with no loss of low end torque, and screams in the last 2K RPM. The cat back i made was under $100 to make up:

5 feet of 2.5in aluminized steel - $10
(1) 2.5in 180 degree mandrel U bend - $54
Turbo muffler - $28 donít laugh, it was temporary until she decided she liked it too much.
(1) Can of high temp black paint - $4
Total cost- $96

I need to take some pics, the black muffler looks HAWT.
