http://rallitek.net/forums/showthrea...8083#post18083 more here but yeah Well......the guys pulled out the tranny yesterday and yeah.......as Ahaugland stated "check for chunks" well there were chunks. 2nd gear toasted. i figured what caused it to go was a couple of hard shifts tending to go to 4th I hit 2nd.
Well the guys at Rallitek are always there for me and jumped right away at it and looks like im going to get a rex tranny Thanks again to Brydon, Kelly, and Joel. You guys ROCK!!!! and I would always trust you three to do any work to any car I ever own.
Hope fully i can find my camera and i will get pics of everything even the gear trashed.

that sucks, good luck with the next tranny. i recommend a RA gearset or maybe one of the newer FXT trannies with 4.44

or just six speed and no more worries

also could you post the pics here and not on rallitek's forum.

No kidding, I wouldn’t waste my time with a regular rex 5MT (got one now), plus you’ll have to change gear ratios or put your old R&P in. Try to find the larger Forester 5-speed or throw some RA gears in a rex tranny before installation.

Also other notes, if you do go rex DO NOT get an 05’ rex tranny or you’ll have to deal with different shafts and seals (again, like I did ). Also your existing VSS will bolt right up no problems, although I think the other connectors may need to be rewired...

Good luck man…

yea gruppe-S has FXT trannies with rear diff for 2k, which is a great deal and a smart way to go IMO.

I cant have my car down long cuz i depend on it a bunch. I got lucky and a rex 5mt it there and its cheap (800). yeah they have to change things around a little but i am also getting a free diff from a friends (thanks matt) so i cani really beat whats there already with out going throught the hassle of finding something else. the ratio is lower so the top end of the car will be faster :-)

There's one thing about the RA gearsets I don't like, and that's how short the gears are. In 5th gear at 80, which we all know is a normal cruising speed, you're revving out to almost 5k. That's ridiculous. If I were you, I'd get a normal STi 5 speed. They're just as strong, but they have more realistic gear ratio.

^^^^
That's why most people just use the RA 1-4 gears and keep the OEM 5th...

I would love an STI tranny but to get one quick is very hard to do.

Try Lachute Subaru (www.lachuteperformance.com). They seem to be able to find parts like this fairly quick and easy.

That sucks.

RA gearset would be great with your setup. my car= 80mph 4,500 rpm. Awesome acceleration. I would reccomend getting the RA and putting in a normal wrx 5th. Good luck

WOW!!!! all I can say is the guys at Rallitek can turn things around quick!!! Started on monday and I got it back Last night. New tranny (wrx sorry guys), new wrx clutch and flywheel and a new wrx diff with pos which I didnt have before.
Not use to the clutch or the time it takes to get up to speed but im sure I will. These gears are long!!!!! I can get up to 60 in 2nd. I just need to get a lighten fly wheel now so it revs quicker.

Thanks again to the guys at Rallitek

Due to the larger differences in gear ratios, using an RA 3rd/4th & stock WRX 5th often results in a grind shifting from 4th - 5th. Not in all cars, but frequently enough we do not recommend this setup.

If you're looking to retain the 5th gear, I would suggest the STI RA Special Edition gears, which have a slightly higher gear ratio and is able to retain the WRX 5th.

I personally have this in my 04 WRX (310whp) and the ratios are still great, helps to spool larger turbos.

Cheers,

Gary

Glad you’re happy with it Adam..! The added LSD is a huge benefit over your original open diff, it really helps to keep the rear-end in line under heavy cornering. Yes the WRX gears are super long-legged. When my EJ20 was in a more stock form I would close the 1/4 mile at the top of 3rd gear. Now I have to shift into fourth but still that’s 100mph in the middle of 4th gear.

Yeah talk about long. i hit 110 in fourth and still had room to go and and all of 5th I am also loving how it kicks in hard in 3rd and just goes and goes.....sweat (kip voice)
