Default Differences in LGT and STi?

Hey folks, im gettin back into subies. Im about to buy a LGT within a month or two. Well id just like to know what all is different, performance wise, between the STi and LGT? I know the intercooler is smaller and its got a VF40. Also whats the difference in the VF40 and VF39? And anything else, like transmission and suspension wise. thanks!

I absolutely love my 05 LGT, With Cobb AP stage 1 the car easily out pulls and is much faster than my stage 2 wrx ever was! Very impressive car. Only down side to it is for sure the suspension, kinda weak for the size of the car... You won't have any regrets going form your wrx to the lgt. Also its so much more confortable to drive.

you have it right, turbo and intercooler are different as well as how they connect to one another, the turbo has a flange on its compressor outlet that bolts directly to the inlet on the intercooler, so using wrx style turbos is not possible unless you switch manifolds or go FMIC. the manifold itself is plastic and the throttle body is located underneath the driver side runners.

the shortblock is the same as well as the cams someone just informed me.

tranny is a 5 speed obviously, different final drive. the suspension is quite a bit different in the rear, it has the multi-link suspension, with a single connection for the suspension to the hub as opposed to two on the wrx/sti rear.

thats the basics that i can think of for now.

Didn't realize there was that much difference between the rear suspension on the LGT and the imprezas... huh. I knew it was not the same from looking at it but didn't know why it looked different, thanks for the lesson.

Thanks ben for the info. Thats exactly what i was lookin to hear. How strong is the tranny? is the the same as the WRX with longer final? or is it a beefier 5spd?

Oh and sorry kenda. Let me rephrase that "thanks sis"!

The tranny is much more beefy than the wrx tranny. Also beware on legacygt.com, I've never been a member of a car specific message board where people bitched soo much about their cars. Don't let that stop you from buying a fantastic car.

i would not go so far as to say they are "much more beefy" than the wrx trannies it is different they are supposed to be reinforced. no one really knows what that means but its supposed to have a strengthened case and some stronger gears, but no one has compared them to the wrx gears so its not clear. the final drives are different and that is also some of it.

also, one of the nice things about the LGT is that it's MUCH less on insurance! lol

but yes, the suspension on the LGT is somewhat lacking. definitely should have been beefed up from the factory a little more. i came from an 03 pontiac vibe gt that i could corner at 50 mph. on the same corners, my LGT squeals at 35 mph.

First upgrade on all but the STi is tires. I drove a new Leg and liked it except for the leather seats, brakes and soft suspension. Nothing I can't except for a period of time. I will certainly buy one when possible.

They are going cheap these days. I have been offered GT Limited Wagons for $25k from every dealer in the bay area.
