Default MY00 GT Intake Sensor? Chilton Manual?

I have a 2000 GT Limited, and I was playing with my stock intake today, taking it apart, yadda yadda (I'm a car mechanics noob, so I like to tinker).

There's a small two-wire sensor that goes into the intake after the filter, right next to the inlet for the intake manifold (?).

What is it?

Also, does anybody know of any Chilton, Haynes, blah blah manuals for the BE Legacy? I haven't found one - only 1996 and older. I'd love to get my hands on one.

Or, if anyone has any other resources like those CD manuals on Ebay that anyone can recommend, I'd love to hear them!

That sensor is the Intake Air Temperature sensor.

Subie factory manuals can be had online, look on eBay. I don't know why the normal aftermarket guide companies haven't touched the 2000+ models...

I tried telling my dad that there are no Chiltons or anything. He just tells me I haven't looked hard enough. I told him I browsed the Internet for a couple hours looking for one. He told me to look local. I then made fun of him because if I couldn't find it in the bazillion internet pages, I wasn't going to find one at my local Auto Zone

I downloaded my shop manual from the subaru web site (http://techinfo.subaru.com/). This was a few years back, but I think it was $20/30 for a 72 hour pass to the site. It only took a couple hours to download the information applicable to my car.

finse, I did the same thing.

And count on it - for those of us who've looked, there is no Chilton's nor Haynes manual for the BE/BH. Go fig.

I did, but I got it answered by a friend of mine.

I ordered a cheap intake off of Ebay, and aside from the fact that I need to lengthen a hose to get it to work properly, there's no place to stick this sensor. Basically I was wondering how important it was. This evening I'm gonna take the time to do a little customizing, and get the sensor and everything installed.

One question I still have, though, is if there is an optimal place to put this sensor. The most convenient place I can put it is about half way between the filter and the intake manifold (note: it's just your standard "short ram" warm air intake).

As for the manuals, I think we can all agree that they are extremely handy to have. I have a couple other problems / projects I'd like to embark on where having the manuals would come in handy (especially wiring diagrams).

I don't know where it "should" go, but i bet you could find a photo of someone with a cobb that has one. DLC's writeup on his CAI install should have a photo of where the IAT goes.

I had the hole right about where you are talking about on my short ram before I scrapped it to go back to the stock system.

I do not have an IAT on my BE so I plugged the hole but I am guessing it worked fine for the guy who had it prior to me.

Good luck.
