Unhappy Blit BLM boost gauge doesnt light?

I recieved my Blitz BLM gauges (boost and EGT) yesterday in the mail. I put them in the apillar that I have, and hooked the wiring harnesses into the backs of both gauges.
We didn't install the EGT gauge yet, as it requires drilling into the exhaust manifold, and we plan to do this today along with my uppipe installation.
Anywho, I had the stock boost gauge in before, and we removed that first. We got the boost vacuum line out fine after finding that darned zip tie hiding all the way up into the dash (i has the gauge installed at the factory; i had the car ordered, so I'm sure they put it together as the car was being built). We had everything out but the wires, a black wire and a yellow wire.
Now tell me if I'm wrong, but the Blitz gauge had the same colors of wires, and I assumed they were for the same things, since the stock boost gauge seemed to be wired up exactly how the Blitz had to be wired up.
The guy buying my stock boost gauge informed me there were wiring harnesses up in the dash somewhere for those wires, but there was no way we could have found them unless we took off the entire steering column... the wires were completely hidden in the dark abyss that is under the dash.
So we ended up clipping the wires and stripping the ends, and we connected the wires to the Blitz wires, yellow to yellow and black to black. At first we tapped them, but were not confident in the tapping because the gauge was not lighting up. So we took off the taps and just wired them together. We plan on soldering them together, but for now they are wrapped up in electrical tape because the gauge is STILL not lighting.
The boost line works fine, and the needle works amazing. No complaints there. But how can the wires not be connected right? The stock boost gauge comes on with the headlights, but the BLM did not??? If wired up exactly like the stock was, why wont it work??
Please help me figure out this problem.
Thanks!

Jessica
