Default How to pull a trouble code? Help plz

I remember reading a post where you could pull the trouble code (CE Light code) without actually going to the dealer and having them tap into your ECU. I did a search and couldn't find anything. I vaguely remember there was someting about turnning the ignition onto acc or on, then switch the shifter to certain positions, pushing the gas pedal. After these steps the CE light would blink a number of times indicating the trouble code. Any help would be appreciatied. I have a MY99 2.5rs AT

Thanks!

only thing i can think of is plugging your PC or laptop or palm pilot into your ECU w/ a special cable. then with the software u can pull the codes and whatever else u need.
