Question Backfire issue!!!

hey i got a problem. since i bought my car i have had backfire. it comes sometimes not all the time. i had a universal straight pipe with a megaflow exhaust when the car came to me. since then i changed the exhaust to a hks carb-tit exhaust. thought it might help but hasnt. it happens usually after i let go of the gas pedal and the rpms start to drop. it just goes POP. Any help on this issue would be a great help. Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome to the wonderful sound of the boxer engine.

Don't worry - it's just unburnt fuel being burnt off as it goes through your catalytic converter. The same thing happens with my RS and Stromung exhaust. With the stock exhaust, the muffler muffles these pops. With straight through exhausts, they just pop on through!

Now if you see flames comming out of your exhaust, well, then that's something different!

LaterZ!

U mean like THIS

He's right tho...its normal. Soon you will know how to do it and will use it to scare ppl walking by

P.S. Its an afterfire, not a backfire. Backfires are when fuel in the intake tract is ignited (nearly impossible with EFI motors)

It's normal. Every car, no matter what make and model, has a little "backfire." The stock exhaust just does what it's supposed to do and muffles the sound, like what was just said.

i get this whenever i don't drive hard, and shift from 3rd to 4th, or 3rd to 5th. My Borla header and Stromung cat-back have made it more audible, but it used to do this with the stock exhaust, and when i ran with no cat-back for a few autocrosses. It appears to me to be running rich, and there's nothing i've been able to do to "fix" it.

i love it mine sounds like gun shots... im running fully catless invidia... erz up and down... 100% bov and hks megaflow.... "i make flames too"

heres the trick i came up with... to make it fire ball fun...

drive around mildy hard to get the motor heated... then while rolling from i say 2nd or 3rd... push the foot on the clutch and rev to about 4k 4.2k then let the rpm drop... to about 3.3k then rev it up again to the 4k 4.5k area... repeat about 2 - 3 times i guarantee u pops and fire if you get it down... took me a good while to come up with it...

i should make a video...

Can anyone reccomend a good aftermarket muffler and high flow cat? I want a little more performance and growl, but absolutely NO fart can.

how much louder is your car with a cat delete pipe? also do you get that lovely smell when you come to a stoplight without it?

ditto on everything.... it get's louder with every mod you get. I'm running Cobb-Headers and Hi-Flow cat, and a Stromung Exhaust... I can kinda control it, I'm fine with it.. I just scare any new passengers each time it goes off.. haha
