Default Put front brakes on the Baja today

W T F??? 32,000 miles and front pads were down to nothing??? They started chirping from the warning strip last week.

No matter, the rotors had some warp so I was planning on doing em anyhow very soon.

I replaced em with Powerslot rotors and Axxis Deluxe Plus pads.

After an aggressive break in of the new units braking is vastly better than stock. Very quiet, very smooth.

I'll report back in a few weeks on the pads dusting level.

Took about a half hour a side to do, very easy.

I paid $114 each for rotors and $76 for the pad set, price was higher on rotors than some folks but...FREE shipping and I split the order in 2 and they gave me a coupon code for each order for $10 off so my final total was $284. Not too bad.

I order em from www.buybrakes.com.

Very fast, very friendly, free shipping took 5 days. Coupon code 08010 seems to be a generic code for $10 off. spend $100 or more and free shippintg too.

Were you aware that if you were still under 3 years on your warranty that the brakes would have been covered by Subaru? They are covered until 36,000 miles. I see that you upgraded the brakes, but this replacement could have been for free, you could have upgraded them on your next replacement.

32K isn't too shabby for brakes on a heavy car. I work on a lot of new GM stuff and usually brakes are done between 24k-36k miles, depending on the driver and climate.
Dealers often try to back out of warranty stuff like brakes because they're considered a wear item. Depends on the dealer and how good they are.

Glad you got a decent deal on the powerslots and Axxis pads.

The warranty goes with the vehicle, NOT the owner!!

You have a bumper to bumper 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and a 5 year 60,000 mile powertain warranty. Inside your warranty and maintenance guide it explains this. It doesn;t matter if you bought it from a dealer, independent or the original owner, the warranty is yours if you are still within the perimeters of the years and mileage.

The owner may have even purchased and extended warranty with Subaru. If you contact them, you may be able to transfer it into your name for a small fee. (I think it is $50.00) Call 1-800-SUBARU 3 with your VIN number and they can tell you when the warranty started and when it ends by time.

Wait, brake pads are covered under warranty? I thought it fell in the same category as oil changes and other regular maintenance? I've already had front and back replaced, as well as my rotors replaned. In fact, the place that did my brakes had to get them from the Subaru dealership!

Wrong, ALL wear items are coverd under 3/36 Subaru warranty. Brake pads, wiper blades, light bulbs, clutch....I mean EVERYTHING but tires is covered. Tires have their own separate warranty. Trust me I know!

Do your research before you spout off misinformation.

Well ****, I learned something new. When did Subaru stop doing it after 12K miles? This is my 9th Subaru and since forever, I've understood them to be the 1st 12K miles. Looks like it was around the time of the WRX they switched (and I never knew thay did) to 3/36.

Little harsh, doncha think? Do you treat n00bs on this forum the same way? No wonder they think this place rots from oldtimers like you saying crap like that.

I've already bought 2 sets of wiperblades for the Baja... crap, I want my $$ back!

I dont think that was harsh, I just said to do your research before you say stuff? I dont see how thats harsh. i didnt call you names, etc. Whatever.

Anyways I am sorry if I embarrased you or something.

Since 2001 model year all wear items have been covered under the 3/36.

May I ask where "I" can find this? Or where you actually find it? Would you quote from the warranty info section? I can't seem to find that part... Thanks!

It is located in the "Warranty and Maintenance" Guide in the first couple of pages. It says something like "Warranty coverage is 3 years, 36,000 miles and covers the entire car".

Heh, well then my dealer screwed me. I just turned over 23,000 last night. They charged me 212.00 to do it all (resurface all rotors, and new pads)

BTW Samirr76:

Lets just say I personally get a lil sporty sometimes

I would call Subaru and complain to get re-imbursed since it has been shown that it's covered under warranty.

Ok, I've put a few hundred miles on, these pads and rotors are a huge improvement over stock and dusting is very minimal, even if I could've had Subaru replace em under warranty I wouldn't have bothered, the stock ones suck compared to these. For $284 it was well worth it IMO.
