Default Cluster FAQ available?

Whats up guys.
I have a 04 Subaru WRX and want to get a JDM cluster
for some interior bling.

Can someone point me in the direction where I can see what years/models are which?
pictures or links would be appreciated.
Any JDM cluster have speedometer over 180km/h?

one more thing
I might resort to getting the USDM STi cluster
but I would like the RPM warning to work as well as the outside temp.
Any good faqs availabe on this?
Im in NJ, anyone able to assist or know where I can get this done?

thanks nasioc members!!!

Tom.... Thank God you are helping me do my TGVs or I'd be sore.

My only input is to MAKE DAMN SURE your realize that 100% of your warranty will be VOID if/when you do a cluster swap. And I mean EVERY single part. Once you fuss with your odometer, you are done. And don't think you will be slick and get your odometer "certified" by an outside company or "verified" by your dealer as it won't matter at all to SOA. A moderator here who works at a Subaru dealership got his warranty voided for a cluster swap.

That's exactly what the Moderator here did. Since he worked at the dealer, he had them make a work report with the info for documentation and everything. Then they voided his warranty.

Federal law provides that the dealer has the burden of proof of showing that a particular modification has affected a failed part before they can deny service under the warranty. If the dealership and/or your DMV certifies the mileage than I don't see how they can deny warranty coverage. In any event, I'm getting ready to do the swap because my warranty is almost up anyhow.

P.S. Suppose a Subaru under warranty had a defective cluster or it was damaged in an accident and it needed to be replaced. Do you really think that the dealer would be able to deny warranty coverage if a problem arose? That's the argument that I would make if they tried to deny coverage after the odometer reading was properly certified and then the cluster was swapped out.

Whats the deal with the Sti cluster from Kingpin Performance thats only $290? Is it a mock up or replica? I know its not JDM, but still, for $290!!! How can you beat it? Maybe it doesn't have the opening gauge sweeps or something. Just curious, because I thought about buying it, but I want to get the one that the needles do a sweep upon key turn.

See the following thread for an explanation: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...5&page=2&pp=25

the one on kingpin is the v7 cluster.
solidsnake is selling the v8 cluster, difference being, the v8s have a defi gauge effect to them, they are blacked out and have a full sweep function

yeah you need the outside temp sensor. it plugs into the plug behind the center platic divider of the front bumper skin in front of the radiator, iirc.

I just got off the phone with SOA and I will have some important information to share about the cluster swap and warranty issue. I am expecting written confirmation of what I was told in a few days and I will be in a better position to talk at that point. So far, it's all good. However, I'm a lawyer and we have a saying, "An oral promise isn't worth the paper it's written on."

P.S. My STI cluster arrived today; thanks to member SolidSnake for a painless and quick transaction.
