Default Cobb ecu question.

My ecu was flashed before the A _Port came out. I then purchased the AP for an ecu that was already flashed. I am now selling the car, and want to know if I can unmarry the AP from the car, and sell the unit. Otherwise, I will have to find another 02 owner and swap ecus (5speed).

thanks

And yes, I am waiting to call in to Cobb this morning.

Yep. I hope it works. But, I would think that it would only work on other cars with the Access ecu flash.

from what cobb has explained to me. Your ECU has the accessecu license on it. When you bought the AP upgrade version that AP was coded to look for a licensed ECU when marrying.

according to Cobb when you unmarry and revert to stock, the AP flashes the a stock-like map to the ecu and erases all traces of the accessecu license and data information. At that point the AP going into "new" more and should be able to be used on any compatable (MY02-03, MY04-05,etc) ECU.

I'm betting on that when I sell my car this summer/fall.

yes and no.

The ap will "flash" a stock like ROM file to your ECU, which completely imitates the stock map in every way. However, it removes the license, so you can use the AP on another car.

THere is certain memory in your ECU that is "overwritten" when you flash your car, and the only way to get it back is to overwrite it again, and the ap overwrites the info with "stock" info and removes the license with a revert to stock option.

phew.

once you unmarry it, you will have cobb's version of a stock map...i.e, as most stock as you're gonna be able to get besides buying a stock ECU.

ive done this numerous times, (installed accessport upgrade on an already accessecu flashed ECU and then unmarried it. the previously flashed ecu will go back to cobb's version of the stock map) it works perfectly fine.

and you can then sell the accessport to somebody with a stock ecu. as long as you unmarry properly, it will work fine (also done this as well)

on another note, i don't know how people can mess up installing/uninstalling accessports...follow directions step by step and you're golden

Ditto. No problems on any step of the installs, including moving to the 2.5 map.
