Default Is the end near? (More Subaru problems)

So the official diagnosis is slowly being put together on my car... and it is leaning towards the headgasket failing AGAIN.

The symptoms:

1. coolant resevoir is full and overflowing
2. coolant appears to be boiling
3. car will overheat if it sits still too long (will run fine on highway type driving... thank god since it started this up 500 miles away from home)
4. Coolant is not being pulled back into the radiator once it is sent to the resevoir.
5. Car is consuming large amounts (1 quart in the 500 miles trip home) of coolant... I think it is really just coming out of the reservoir bottle instead of being burned off or leaked out.

Any thoughts?

It looks bad and makes me think headgasket... if it is the HG, this will be be the death of this car in its present form... I will either go through with my planned swap NOW or fix it, sell it and buy something else (and not a Subaru... three headgaskets failing in 2 years is too much)... :sigh: this car and I have such a love/hate relationship... when something breaks on it, it is NEVER something small...

yep, it could be something small like a thermostat or radiator (ok, radiator isn't small) that is causing the HG to pop once the water starts to boil.

you should really look into getting the cooling system completely flushed out. even if there is a passage somewhere in the block that is clogged it can cause problems of this nature.

1. radiator pulled, pressure tested cleaned and pressure tested again
2. All hoses replaced on front of engine
3. Water pump replaced as it was seaping coolant
4. Timing belt replaced
5. AC and PS belts replaced
6. New radiator cap installed
7. New thermostat installed
8. Flushed and filled

So let me rule all of that out...

Thank god all ofthat only cost me $180 in parts and no labor.... or I would be really pissed at this point...

So the last headgasket failure warped the heads resulting in this? Sounds plausible.

It sounds like the cooling fan may be out. check the theromstat and the fan relay. My mom's escort did the exact same thing.
