Question A little help to get me going

I looked at all the stickies I promise! I didn't see anything about my 1995 Wagon (legacy)

I tried the VIN codes and saw a 'BK'. Am I to assume this is the chassis code?

Also would I be right to say I have the EJ20 under my hood?

I asked before under the 'general section' or the 'noobie section', but I think they deleted it...for obvious reasons, it is a question you guys have probably dealt with 1,000,000's of times. I frequent corolla-racing <dot> com almost everyday and know a little about cars, but my corolla doesn't have the immediate potential a subaru would have unless I do an engine swap. So I want to get started on my legacy wagon and need a small boost in the right direction. If you answer this then maybe you could update your sticky about chassis/engine codes to include my 1995. It skips from 94 to 96...

Thanks, i look forward to posting more.

Cool

okay so i found the:

Chassis: BK5
Engine: EJ22E

and the 1995 did not have any GT models and only one 'shared' exhaust port, as opposed to the 2 exhaust ports from the GT. The GT also has .3L more disp. as many of you know...so I guess I will start a search to see if there are any performance options available for this thing. If any of you have any suggestions about the EJ22 or want to point me in a suitable direction, by all means do so...I am unaware of the potential, if any, that this car has.

There isn't much potential for the 2.2 n/a engine.

Not many people make upgrades for it, but you can use some stuff from other engines.

Depends on what you're going for. Speed, not gonna happend, wrx or sti swap. AVO makes a turbo kit for the 2.2 and it will make you faster than a stock wrx but theres not much you can do after that. If you just want a little extra kick you can get headers and exhaust stuff. Boxer4racing.com has alot, so does rallitek.com. If you want to look good then thats the hard part. Alot of Legacy stuff you have to get from Japan but lucky for you the wagon sedan ratio is 3:1 so once you find a good source you should be set. A couple places I would try for that is http://www.teiwa.co.jp/main/index.asp and http://www.tuningspec.com/usd/index.asp
Both places are really expensive and make sure you're not getting screwed over (I paid 600$ for a set of JDM rear corners). Good luck!

1995 was undoubtedly the most boring year for Subarus in the US, period. The turbo models stopped in 94, the 2.5 wouldn't be available till 96 in the Outback, and the 96 GT was as rare as crows teeth.

Intake, Exhaust, lightweight pullies and maybe something like an MSD DIS-2 could possibly get you 15-20hp at the crank. Forced induction will cost more than the car books for, but that's not necessarily bad, because it's not THAT much

Pay attention to the handling and looks, they don't disappoint.

Thats the conclusion i came to after some searches...bummer. I love the handling capabilities of this thing, I can take an onramp freeway curve at 80 mph without batting an eye, but dang does it take forever to get to those speeds, compared to gt or sti...so engine swap huh...darn it. Well looks like the wifes car is going to stay just that, a kid mover. I might look into turbo then if I do go from here, and I already knew about intake, exhaust, etc.

About the looks, I'm more into go than show, my wish would be to throw on some SSR competition wheels that weigh 9 lbs each, thats it for show. It will also help prformance wise, free up some hidden hp (not much) by losing that weight.

Now what about the transmission. It shifts pretty funky when going from a stopped to floored position. Is there a transmission i could upgrade too? It would have to stay auto (darnit again) but are there some performance trannies out there, like the allison used in gmc's...?

i drove an sl500 benz and it shifted so smoothly...i know its a benz so maybe not that high quality, but u guys/gals get the idea.
