Shaggin' Wagon Thrice

OMGHi2U Shaggin' Wagon goes down at Sebring

I finally get my car on a road course (Sebring) and then the engine decides to pop. After about 30 laps, the coolant alarm goes off. No problem I think, and ease it back into the pits only to here some terrible metallic clanging. I shut the engine off and let it cool. I pop the hood only to find oil sprayed against the firewall where the turbo sits. I restart and notice the crank pulley oscillating with some horrific sounds. I called a wrecker and sent it to Mastro.
After 74,000 miles (hard) and three different turbos on the stock 2.0L block I guess I'm not surprised.

Looks like I'll be posting in the 2.5L forum soon.

Wow, 74,000 miles isn't bad! Good thing you didn't get a fire with the oil spraying all over the turbo

Call Kingpin, he'll get you hooked up with a 2.5.

Sorry to hear man. I bet it was fun running the crap out of it! Sounds like the main (crank) bearings got eaten up if your crank pulley was jumping around. Good luck with the 2.5L. Check out my thread in the EM Tuning forum. I think it's stated as New Engine, CEL misfire, Knock... or somethinglike that. Anyway, there hasn't been alot of posts except for my own. I'm slowly getting things straight but I'm also using 100mm pistons (oversized forged) and the specs aren't exactly the same. Anyway goodluck!

Is the coolant alarm a oem piece or something you insalled- audible? I've never heard of it.

Any other signs- egt's, oil temp?

You've certainly got a good attitude

Checking in with 82K miles and counting Rob, is Mastro doing the swap or are you?

spoolinsuby: yes, Mastro will do the swap. I hope my heads are still ok

+1 for the heads, you do know the 2.5 block with the WRX heads is going to give you almost 9:1 compression

I was there Saturday. I didn't see any other Subies getting towed except for mine. However, my day ended around 2:30.

Yes, I saw a thread on here that gives compression ratios of all Suby motors, being stock or hybrids.

Awesome, but I'll still be out of town. Tell Bill to try and return a phone call. I have a question about a turbo upgrade.

Sucks that it popped but cool that the 2.5 will go in. My wagon is getting the 2.5 put in right now and paired with the RA gearset, she should be quite the beast. Wagons Rule!!!!

Nice! You'll love the RA gearset. I had mine installed about 14,000m ago. What turbo and EM are you running? ECUTek and VF22 on the Shaggin' Wagon with a new snail coming in the near future.

My RA gearset went in about that long ago also and I do love it. I sometimes wish I would've kept the stock 5th gear though. The first time I got on it after it was installed, all I could say was HOLY @#$^!!!!! I'm running a VF34 with UTEC EM. I hope to have my car back with the new motor late next week from Big Daddy Teague and I'll have to be happy with 16 psi for a while or I'll be looking for a divorce lawyer and a place to live...

Yes....wagons do rule!! I've come to figure out that cops don't pay much attention to a plain looking balck wagon I also did the 2.5, but used V7 avcs heads. It works perfect with the 6 speed. Very happy with it....

I take it you replaced your stock ECU with a JDM version 7 in order to run AVCS? Very interested in your setup.

sjl1614 is my buddy, Scott. I drove his car last week. I also run an '02 wagon but without all the engine/tranny work. He told me he was over 400 hp/tq at the crank and I'm certain that's accurate. That car is amazing!

can't build boost with the V7 ecu. With clutch in and below 10mph, you can floor it and won't rev past 4800rpm(which can be changed)

mantra1 - Was swamped at work today and didn't get a chance to call.....

...motor is apart....#2 & #4 connecting rod bearings are shot, main bearings too, heads and valves are in good shape. Oil spray on the firewall was a loose oil breather line coming off the block in front of the turbo, turbo is fine.

New shortblock starts to get built tomorrow. I'm on vacation til the 11th so you should have it back before I return!
