Default If you have sold a 2001RS with mods on it please read this!!!!!!!!

I am looking a a 2dr 5spd 2001 Silver RS to buy. I found it at a little used lot. It has a lot of aftermarket stuff done to it!! PRM intake, Dual MRT Muffler, Cusco Upper front Strut brace, lowered, and clear corners. Now for the bad news, it has had the front completely repainted. So... it has probably been wrecked! That is why I want to talk to the original owner. And well whoever owned it surely is on here!! The VIN# is
JF1GM67561G400585

Thanks for your time!

Maybe he just had the front repainted... after a good deal of road gravel damage, and such maybe he just wanted a nice clean coat put on. How can you tell it was re-painted?

Selling a car with aftermarket parts is stupid. I mean it has a lower value b/c of what he/she modified. You should get a pretty decent price on the car...

goodluck!

Ok on the "Now is not the time to be cheap" that is true but, to my knowlegde they don't list the person's name that previously owned it. Yep I could probably get a good price on it, but it's one of those things that you're not sure what all has been done to the car! And that bugs me!

i've seen cars got into accident and got it fixed without telling the insurance company... the other guy paid him out of his own pocket, afraid of insurance policy go up... So what I am saying is, it could have still been in an accident. Take it to a good trust worthy shop. They should be able to tell if there were any damages from the past. Good luck!

You dont want a car with damage...

Ask the current owner why it got repainted...if they dont tell you then dont buy it, move on to the next car...

You dont have to get an impreza, although all of us here will sway you there .

You really should take any used car, especially, from a small, independent lot, to a third-party mechanic that you trust. Any decent mechanic can tell you if a car has been wrecked, especially anything that could cause a problem - rewelded frame, straightened frame, no air bag, etc.. Everything else you can tell by test drive - does it track straight/stop straight.

If they won't let you take it to your mechanic for inspection, walk away.

no! go to DMV get the original owner name and ask him what happend , because if it was in accident and for some reson settled with out insurance . "it wont show up "
or dont waist ur grands on a car that has been in an accident .you will regret it .

I highly agree with Gavin, spend a coupla dahlahs and have it checked out for signs of accidents. It will be worth it and a lot easier than tracking down the owner. Plus they will tell you other things like how much left on the brake pads, tires, etc. Unless you are buying from a major dealer, have it checked by a mechanic or Lemonbusters!

Trixxxter - Most dealers will give you the previous owners info. If they won't, go to the DMV and get it. If you tell the dealer that you want to talk to the previous owner or you won't consider buying it, I'm sure they'll give you their number.

The man who bought my '96 DSM GSX tracked me down even though my car had changed dealers twice before being sold. Also, at the dealership I used to work, we'd run into this often and the previous owners info was always disclosed.

Default How much can an accident affect the selling price?

I assume it depends on how bad the accident was, but is there some general percentage that one would lower the price to?
