Default What to do about a car buy?

Now even thought its not directly related to my legacy it kinda is. I'm thinking of buying a 86 Mazda Rx-7 it has 72,100 miles and is goin for 1,000 i've seen it talked to the guy not a bad car for the price. But no plates and won't pass sniffer test I believe. Heres the thing the legacy needs a wheel bearing. The Rx-7 cost more than double what the wheel bearing cost. But if I got it, I got a spare car to get around in say if the legacy were to get some upgrades down the road like engine and such. the RX-7 would just be my second car anyway and would be something fun to screw around in.... cough RWD. SO should I go for the buy with the Rx-7 or should I hold my cash fix the leggy and see where it goes from there??

Can you afford the beater car?

Does it need much in the way of fixing?

I'd say just get the Legacy fixed up. If you get a new car, you have to deal with insurance, taxes, and all that happy stuff.

Maybe see into it after you fix up the Legacy if you need a RWD beater.

If I were you since I've had a 3rd Gen RX-7 and have a love of rotary's.

I probably would not look to this car. The 86' year was the first year of the Gen 2 7's. It's probably fairly reliable, but if you wanted something fun and cheap I would look for a Gen I RX-7 '85. It's lighter, and pretty much had a majority of the bugs worked out.

You could turn around lightly mod the Gen I in the future and do some SCCA racing.
