Higgins Automotive in Salisbury can rebuild WRX transmissions. 42 Autosports in Concord are excellent too.
Draco in Mooresville have moved out of their shop and I haven't heard anything out of them in awhile.
Lol at the ancient thread from Gino

I really got burnt by Higgins, taking shortcuts and then wasn't up for fixing. I just looked you up. I see you are family. so hence the bias. Sorry but I was really let down.

So bumping this up again as I'm looking for a shop in the Southern Pines neck of the woods that actually has weekend service. I checked into Turbotime near Raleigh already but they do not have weekend service.

That confuses me, as in my eyes it just drives away business. How am I supposed to drive to get to a shop for them to work on my vehicle when they close at 6 but I'm not off work until 4-430 (as with most common full-time jobs and most military jobs)? That's barely getting to a shop before they close which leaves no times for work on the car. On top of that, if I were to leave the vehicle there, it's a huge pain in the ass as I have to have a second vehicle make the drive back home, then back to the shop again to pick the car up. So basically it becomes 2 vehicles having to drive 2-4 hours on 2 separate days to accomplish what could be done in one if the shop was open on Saturday.

Be like a barber shop and be Tues-Saturday, makes more sense to me from a customer service standpoint.

Just had turbotime rebuild my 5 speed. They stand behind their work and did it for a good price.

I had communication problems with TT and they forgot to hook up some of the breather hoses when I got the car back(rush to get back home; didn't notice it until I got on the highway and spelled oil fumes), so they're a little "meh" for me but a lot of people have had good luck with them; it did seem like they were busy so I'll give them that.

What type of work are you trying to get done? If it's nothing major, I'm sure you can find a shop that can work on your car over the weekend with an appointment(especially small independent shops).

Full-service shops don't really open on the weekend because most of the cars are there for quite some time anyways (especially if they run into issues). You mainly see franchise/chains that are open on weekends which mainly do "quick" maintenance work at most. Many skilled technicians prefer to work regular hours like everyone else; spend weekends with friends and family.

Sorry if you felt like there was a communication issue. What exactly was left disconnected? We were never made aware that we left "breather hoses" loose. Had we been we could have fixed it at the very least and likely offered something for our mistake. What service did you have done? If we do something wrong and it is clearly our error, we have to be given notice and an opportunity to make it right otherwise we can't provide good customer satisfaction after the fact.

+1 for Turbo Time. I drove all the way from Brevard to Cary just to get an OS tune(at that time they were about the only reputable OS tuner in NC that I had heard about) and install an ERZ down pipe. They ran into a problem because ERZ welded a bracket on the wrong side. IIRC they worked late that night to cut that bracket off and weld it on the correct side, so I could get back to Brevard the next day. I also remember the pricing being very reasonable. They also did a great tune as well....70k on the tune without one hiccup.

The two hoses to the driver's side valve cover were completely off. I just simply put it back on instead of driving back to the shop; IMO it wasn't worth it to drive back(I live in Raleigh, and how to leave for work which is in Clayton).

I was the one with the EJ207 LGT and needed intake cams installed. A communication issue, is what you guys called it. Don't know if you remember me, but after that phone call I was beyond dissatisfied not because of the "misquoted labor rate", but basically how I was talked to and treated because I didn't know how the labor rates were structured(but I did find out NC Auto Repair Law would've backed me). In the end, I was given a discounted rate that you could say was a compromise for both parties, and I agreed the technicians did do work and the honest thing to do was comp them for that. Now, my experience seems to differ from everyone else so I left out details and the impression I left with was you guys could care less if I take my car to you guys.

Sorry you feel that way. I do remember you and your car. It's unfortunate that you feel like you were mistreated. We spent a number of times on the phone explaining to you why the labor rate was what it was. At least 5 phone calls that I remember. The only miscommunication issue I see was that we didn't specifically ask when you called if the engine was in or out of the car. I honestly assumed that since you weren't asking for a tune or any other services that you were going to bring us a long block. And for that I do apologize. When you called and asked for a quote for installing intake cams, that is what we gave you. Then when you brought us the entire car, we let you know that it was going to be more. You brought us a car that had countless issues and specifically said that you didn't want us to address anything but installing the cams. The car BARELY ran when it came in AND when it left. I feel like discounting the service by over 40% was more than fair to accommodate your dissatisfaction. We lost money on your job, just FYI. Regardless, we are sorry you feel the way you do, but in this case, we tried to be as professional as possible and did our best to try to make you satisfied. If you are still unhappy and have "a bad taste" for our shop, then we can only accept that and move on. Again, we do apologize that you were unhappy when you left and hope that you just understand that we did the the best we could with what we were given.

Because a tech put copper NA impreza plug in my STi when I paid for a compression check and new iridiums. After a $500 diagnostic bill at the dealer for misfires 25k miles later all is well again, lucky as hell the engine didnt blow up.

Jackie told me y'all have since fired that tech for unrelated reasons, VERY WARY of going back though

TT did my car, a 2005 wrx sedan. the intake tumble generator.it went bad, so it was down for a day or two, nothing major. now, i have a few hundred rpm more powerband, and they reflashed the ecu so it passes everything safety related.also, did other maintanence on my car,, so i am happy with them.Ryan is a good dude, so if someone talks that they did you wrong, then something happened as a mistake.. I would support them wholly, they do not do me wrong. It is sad that some of these mistakes have happened to you.Like anything I suppose, there are times when bad things happen to good people. That is indeed unfortunate. They also work on rally cars that do well in NASA events,DIrty rally sport of SC does sandblast and other events, and do well.Due to maintainence at TT.

I personally know pretty much everyone at TT, maybe we can od a another BBQ outing, and we can meet and discuss this in person, I am sure we can work a compromise out if we work it out in person, I am free most weekends, maybe we can talk about rally cross or autocross. We just got a cool vw golf mk 4, for our rally cross car. BFI is a cool joint too.anyone need vw work, see my freind Adam Ligon.
