Post Interior Color Change: Fog, Cruse, Heated Wiper Switch Color Change

I finally finished the last piece of the interior color change. I haven't seen a tutorial on changing the Curse, Fog Light..ect. switches yet so here is how to do it.

1: Get to the switches by removing the dash trim plastic holding screw in the door jam. Then unscrew the screw holding the lower dash at the hood release lever. Pull the dash out carefully toward the back of the car. It will still be connected at the middle of the car but this gives you enough room to remove the switches.

2: Unplug the connectors at the back of the switches by pressing the clip and pulling them out. They are color coded to the switches so you donít have to worry about mixing them up.

3: Remove the switches by pressing the clip at the bottom of the switch nearest the dash, rocking it up, and pushing it through the front of the dash.

4: Carefully using a sharp x-acto knife or something similar peel the plastic square off the front of the switch. It is lightly glued in with tacky glue and should come out pretty easily. Do this step slowly so you don't scratch the front of the piece. DO NOT attempt to take the switch body apart because it is a PITA to put back together. ALSO make sure to label the switch the label came from so you put them back on the right switch, unless you want to confuse people Why do the fog lights go off when I turn on cruse control?

5: Now using whichever method you would like (I prefer isopropyl alcohol over sanding) remove the green film from the back of the labels. You will not be able to change the indicator light at the top of the fog light or wiper switch.

6: I used red film from a theater lighting gels to change the switch to red buy do whatever method to change the color you would like. The bulbs are very small so I don't know if painting them will be bright enough but you could try that. I have found that painting the HVAC and stereo bulbs with San Reno Red touch up paint from Subaru gives a very solid red color so it might work well here as well.

7: Glue the labels back on the switches. I used super glue. Wait for them to dry and install opposite of removal. Remember the connectors and the back of the switches are color coded so this is easy. Push the dash back in place install the screws and enjoy your new interior color.

If you have any questions or if this helped you post a reply so I can see how helpful my tutorial was. Thank You.

Exclamation A percaution.

Make sure the lights in the switches are out before trying to remove them because if you move them too much when they are on they will burn out and finding replacements could be a huge PITA. This goes for all interior mods as well... I blew my boost gauge bulb and it took me two days to find a replacement..... which didn't fit..... untill I made it fit...... using sand paper and very bad language.

I have, you can indeed change the upper indicator color. The fog switch has another layer glued to it, it popped off easily. I sanded completely and made the main color red, and the indicator blue.

I just did this yesterday, and then kind of again today. When I did it yesterday I couldnt get the front part to stay on so when I was amusing myself and playing with my new red foglight switch the card kept falling off. I just put a thing layer of rubber cement on it today and I suspect it will never come off now. Does anyone know what bulb goes in the fog light switch, I think one of mine is dead.

Here is how the HVAC turned out

And in the very bottom of this one you can see the defroster and cruise buttons, but like I said part of my fog light is out, but you can see its a pretty good color.

I hope the pictures worked.
