Difference between USDM and Canadian models
So a while back I purchased a 92 Legacy Turbo Sedan that was originally imported to Canada. I was just wondering if you guys have noticed any differences from the USDM and the CDM.
A few things I noticed where the dash lights, and the day time running lights. I had a USDM Turbo before the CDM and noticed that instead of the standard “brake” when the emergency brake was engaged there was now a “!”.
One difference that I did like was the manual seat belts. The USDM got the cruddy automatic seat belts which were prone to failure.
I no longer have the car so I can’t really check to see if there were any other things that differed from the USDM version. I think I might have taken a picture of the dash lights, but I can’t seem to find it.
So what have you noticed?

Well from a wiring and drivetrain perspective, both USDM and CDM are the exact same. I have a CDM EJ20 drivetrain with a USDM ECU and wiring harness. In performing my swap, it was clear that these two RHD’s are the same.
I imagine you’ll only find minor changes between the model, most specifically geared towards the combination meter (instrument cluster) and the integrated micro-computer which is used to process sensor data (such as VSS) and present it to the instruments.
