I recently purchased a 02 impreza wagon, It did not come with the stock fog lights, just covers. The stocks ones are a little pricey, does anyone know where to find them cheaper, or what good aftermarket lights fit without many problems? Just curious as to how many sube owners change the stock ones to aftermarket ones etc..

Here's the most popular aftermarket option for foglamps:
http://www.rallylights.com/hella/500.asp Just get the foglamp kit, clear stone shields, and the Impreza specific brackets and you're set. About $135 for everything after shipping. [i have them on my car and they're waaaaay better than the OEM lamps that came with the car] |

either the Hella FF1000 or Hella 500s are good option, very cost effective as well.
I would choose the FF1000s over the 500s, but if you are on a tight budget the 500s are still much better than the OEM ones. RR ![]() but for the ultimate in lighting check HERE |

Well, it depends if you want foglamps or driving lamps.

i did the cheapest route possible... $15 autozone ones and used relay and switch. then spliced wires into stock plugs.
they broke the first rock that hit them. so then i did the second cheapest route possible- hella optilux 1100s... and i'm really freaking happy this time. they light good and cost 45 bucks. and they're stealth. ![]() ![]() |

Hella 500s are not significantly cheaper than the FF1000s are... so I would definitely suggest the FF1000s.... just remember, they are BRIGHT AS HELL and you will have to shut them off when you are around other people.... but they are great for country driving and mountain roads...
Make sure to get the WRX specific brackets... the lights are not too easy to mount without them... and they LOOK bigger than the stock lights even though they are roughly the same size... ![]() |

Oh yeah... the FF1000s are a little cheaper if you order the lights and brackets seperately from Rallylights.com.... and get the clear shields... they do a good job of protecting your hundred bucks...

Thanks for all the tips, and especially the link to all the light bars, that was my second question. Unfortunatly most of the bars seem to be custom made. Anybody know who could make me a custom light bar. Im going for the rally look, hopefully rally the car one day. Think I might go with the Hella 500, I dont really like the little lights. Thanks for all the pics and advice.

PIAA 520s i believe come in a foglamp pattern. Unfortunately they cost about 2x as much as the Hellas. They may seem to be brighter but then again the PIAA kit comes with 85w bulbs (i think) while the Hella 500s only come with 55w bulbs (which can be easily upgraded to 85w bulbs for about $10 if you want).

[shameless for sale plug]If you want to buy some FF1000s, i have a pair for sale here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ghlight=ff1000 If you want to stick them in the OEM locations all you'd need is the WRX bracket kit found here: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/ff1000.asp The broken piece won't even be necessary. [/shameless for sale plug] |

I have relatively the same car other than the color. Im thinking of getting foglights too. But Im afraid of rocks that will shatter my foglight into tiny pieces of glass... If I add the ff500 or 1000, can i put those transparent fog light covers so i can protect the foglight. Or will it bulges outward preventing the installation of the transparent cover?

If you haven't tried it yet, post a request in the "wanted" forum - maybe someone has a set they are looking to get rid of (possibly even with the OEM switch)

You should be able to use the clear covers with either in the OEM positions. I know for sure the 500s with clear covers work and i don't see why they FF1000s wouldn't fit either.
[that's one reason i switched, one of my OEM lamps got b0rk3d by a rock] |

The FF1000s work just fine with the acryllic covers on them... just make sure to use the WRX brackets or the mounting job is a nightmare in the stock locations.
