I have a feeling that my fuel gage does'nt work. I was wondering where i can get the float inside the gas tank so i can replace it. Ive tried my local Auto Zone and competing buisnesses....no dice.

It probably works as well as it is going to. they aren't really accurate. That part will be at a dealership of somewhere like subarugenuineparts.com

9 out of 10 of us will agree that the gauge is inaccurate.

There have been several threads on this. You can search and find a few that will tell you how to replace the sensors.

On that note, I just pulled my 'primary' sending unit (the one attached to the main fuel pump) out and checked resistance. It's shot. I'll be ordering another one and replacing it. What led me to check it was some extremely sporadic gauge readings. I'll let y'all know what I find.

I didn't check the secondary one since this one was so... broke. I may check it if readings are funny after I replace the first one.

I'd also appriciate the links. I'm having the same problems. My gauge will read 3/4 of a tank at one point in the day when I knew the tank was full (I just filled it up 20 minutes ago), and about 6 hrs later it went up to full as I pulled into the driveway.

Yeah, my gauge is crap. I've been right above E and at half a tank and filled up and still had to pump in 9 or so gallons. The best way to judge is figure out how many miles your getting in a tank. I get about 200-220 depending on how hard I am driving the car. At which point I need to fill about 9-9.5 gallons.

Its because the subaru doesn't use electric gauges.

ColdEggSalad: I doubt you can just get the float, you probably (99% sure) that you have to buy the whole sending unit.

Or...............go to a junk yard, but that one may not be any better.
