Default decision making: 2002 legacy GT exhaust

I was wondering where I can find exhaust for my 2002 legacy GT.
Also, I was wondering if 2.5RS exhaust would fit my car, i highly doubt it because legacy is bigger(?). If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know which ones and where I can find them. Thanks.

There are a few recent threads surrounding this issue. The exhaust I've ordered for my same-generation-as-yours Legacy is through iON Performance.

AFAIK, the products available are as follows:

ION Performance has a history of selling exhaust for our cars but seems to be having trouble shipping them at this time. Search will provide you with details.

Stromung is considered to provide an extremely excellent product although it does not appear that many people on this board (Leg people) go in this direction.

There is an SPT Axle Back, sold by Subaru, not much is discussed on this product.

Techworks engineering supposedly has a product for our cars although I have never come acroos information about one installed on our car.

Recently many people have been pushing the custom route for our cars. From my experince on this board this is the most popular route for BE/BH.

Personally, I want a Stomung and will buy one whenever I can afford it.

i used to have a stromung axle back which i sold, and it sounded great, not any performance gain though, get a full catback and that would be sweet. i currently have a Brullen catback and it also sounds great and would recommend them if they are still available.

i made a new 3" custom exhaust which i hope will sound great....

ttatsumi: any headers that fit the Impreza RS should work on yours.

For a catback, the Impreza is too short without modding. Go custom or Stromung.

Would the catback Xcceleration system for the Baja fit the Legacy?

the baja system should fit, however the turbo baja version may be different from the NA. personally i would not buy from xcceleration, due to previous things they have done.

also if you are looking at headers, if you have an auto some of the headers do not fit, more particularly the good equal length ones like TWE.

I would not be hundred percent the baja would fit correctly. It SHOULD, but when I ordered my MRT a ways back, there was a distinction between Legacy and Outback sedan. Seeing as the Baja (I believe) is based off the outback, there could still be the issue. FWIW though, I have no clue what was different between the 2 systems.

The brullen sounded the best from what I recalled. Although to each their own. Many as mentioned are having great results with custom.

Brullen, to my dismay, is GONE. As in, closed up, g-bye.

Second in my book is their former supplier, iON Performance, who (per Jack) are moving to a larger facility, and are finalizing the newer muffler design and assembly.

I bet the reason a lot of guys aren't going Stromung is that they're trying to keep their Legacys "low profile". This is where the quiet design that iON offers got my purchase.

The Baja is based on the BE, i.e. the sedan version of the Legacy/Outback platform. Check out the leading edge of the roofline - it's the giveaway. Regarding exhaust applications, I sure don't know, though.

I just replaced my severely rusted out Stromung (mild steel) rear section w/ one of the SPT (Brospeed mfg'd). I have the Borla Gen4 header, Stromung HF Cat + Midpipe. The SPT quieted the setup a HELL OF A LOT, compared to the Stromung.

The SPT rear section is very pretty (engraved tip "2.5 GT", quality construct/fitment, and is relatively inexpensive... the 3" tip isn't too large IMHO. I did notice a difference in acceleration at varoius RPM's with this change... a bit more back pressure affecting things.

The stromung has a deeper grumbly tone (especially when rusted to hell) . My neighbors will undboubtedly appreciate the new SPT rear section (muffler). I'll post pics of the old and the new in the exhaust thread soon.

*this is on a BD GT, but the SPT is the same style for the newer models.
