Default legacy turbo anyone?

I am coming into some expendable income soon and I am in dire need of a project. my plan orginally was to buy an old motorcyle and fix it up. One day while I was at work selling auto parts a guy came in with a 94' legacy turbo that he had paid $300 for! he didn't even know how cool that was! I'm not expecting to get that kind of deal on one but since then I have been looking everywhere for one, they are really hard to find. does anyone know where I might be able to find a 90-94 leagacy turbo for sale?

www.legacycentral.org is a pretty good site for old legacies.
bbs.legacycentral.org is the forum. Try looking in there?

man i wish that I had one... white, 5-speed.. I'd put some wrx goodies (intercooler, turbo upgrade) and as much Jdm touring wagon stuff as a college kids income can allow..which isnt much..they're great how they are anyway though

If I could even maybe find a fixer, that would almost be better. If I could find one that at least had a strong tranny I could go from there. I'd like to get to know the subaru engine a little better anyway

josh,
According to numbers I've seen on Legacy Central, there were 668 turbo Legacies imported between 1990 and 1994. Of them, the 1992 5sp was the rarest (6 imported) and the 1994 automatic was the most plentiful (230 imported).
I have a 1994 auto turbo wagon and I love it. I have done:
WRX wheels
WRX intercooler w/ custom charge pipe
3" intake with K&N
3" BPM exhaust w/ cat
S-AFC
12.5 psi

It makes 143 hp / 155 lb-ft at the wheels on a Mustang dyno (approx 230 hp / tq at the crank) and after all the mods and tuning it gets ~22 MPG average.

I really enjoy driving it, and even more so I enjoy nailing the throttle off the stoplights and watching Honda Civics and 18 yr old punk kids disappear in the rearview. Usually the last thing I see is either or

I've been thinking of selling mine, a 93 A/T wagon. It has a few suspension mods and it's very fun to drive, although it needs a little cosmetic work. It's just tough to make that decision and sell it, it really is fun to drive.

What's a reasonable price for a '94 Legacy 5spd Sport Sedan with 170K miles? My roommate wants to buy one off of one of my friends, but a) I don't want to screw my friend over and b) I want it to be worth my roommate's while.

She likes her car, but she just doesn't know enough about it and won't do the required maintenance. It's beginning to run into some problems, like recently the knock sensor went bad and then one of her coolant pipes needed replaced. Also, from what I can tell, her oil pan is about to crack due to rust and she's also on the original turbo. I'm not sure how long those items are gonna last.

So, can anyone come up with a reasonable price?

The fact that it's a 5MT makes it a little more valuable since the Auto Trannies have been known to crap out early. If the body is very nice shape with no rust or major dents, and the interior is clean and everything functions properly I'd say about $2500-$2800. If the body has rust spots that have rotted I wouldn't price it higher than $1500. If it requires lots of maintenance to get it running perfect maybe $1000.

The knock sensor is typical at that many miles, so are all the rubber hoses, water temp sensor, IAC valve. The smaller rubber hoses may have dry rotted in some areas and they start cracking. The factory turbo should be o.k. if the proper precautions were taken like letting the car idle for a couple minutes before shutting it off. An aftermarket turbo timer would help, or a remote starter with shut off timer.

Those numbers aren't accurate at all for the number of turbo legacy's in the US. There are quite a few more than that. Nobody is quite sure where those numbers came from.
